ok first of all go digital. some of the manufactures are not even making lenses anymore except for the ones specifically meant to go with digital. since digital is the most popular choice of camera it goes to say that the most accesories will be available for digital cameras.

secondly to get really good action pictures you need an slr type camera. i would recomend nikon or cannon. you don't need the most expensive one. but you do need two features specifically on the camera. one being shutter speed priority or manual mode. the other being a shutter speed of 1/500 of a second or faster.

now i'm guessing your trying to take pictures of something a little further away like your kid playing football, etc... this would also call for a nice lens. the cheapest lens is not always the best or worst. neither is the name brand of the lens. do a little homework on different brands of lenses. ritz, cord, and wolf camera shops are great places to buy camera equipment because they are very competitive priced but the salespeople sometimes aren't as knowledgable as you'd hoped or only want to sell you the kit telling you its cheaper (and cause they get a good sales incentive of it) which it is but its not what will get you the picture you want. i know i used to work selling camera's for 7 years.

ok. so why do you need a lens like this-in cases where your shooting at dark or in a dark area like indoors you need a lens whose aperture wide open is 1.8 or 2.0 sometimes. because you will be shooting and your aperture will be opening and closing so fast you need a larger hole to let more light in basically. you can compensate with a higher speed film but most times when you shoot above 800 speed film you get grain. which is when your pictures look like your in a snow storm. and sometimes a higher speed film isn't enough.

when you start looking at lenses especially zoom lenses or lenses that come in camera kits they have what we call sliding aperture. which means the aperture will change when your fully zoomed out you wont get the fastest aperture setting. for example you buy a 28-105mm f2.8-5.6 is what the box will say. when you shoot at the 28mm focal length you will get f2.8 when you zoom out to say 105mm the most you'll get is f5.6 which doesnt let as much light in. the larger the f stop number the smaller the hole! you can get lenses that have straight f stops. such as a 28-105 f2.8 (see the difference?) a much nicer lens and in the photo business we call it a faster lens. but also a much more expensive lens.

so my suggestion would be to look into off brand lenses if you can't afford the name brand. try tamron, sigma, and vivitar. even the promaster and quantarays arent bad sometimes. read up and do some homework when it comes to lenses. and if i've totally confused you lmk.

Unless you have a large amount of money to invest in a good digital SLR camera, definitely go with a film camera. You can buy 800 film that should work well for action shots.

With the cheaper point and shoot digital cameras, action is absolutely not captured at all. Plus, there is an awful delay on them so not only is your picture totally blurry, but it was taken about 1 second later than you wanted it to be.

i suggest slr cameras since you can adjust shutter and aperture speed to accomodate the speed at which your subject is moving.plus it can go up to 10x resolution and 10x zoom which can still be added using external lens. slr camers come both in film and more recently digital. the downside here is that slr cameras aren't exactly cheap (if film maybe it is... it depends) and its a bit complicated to use so if you don't have the patience to learn every nook adn cranny of you camera, you won't be able to take the best pictures and maximize the capabilities of the camera itself.

as for the brand, it'd depend. i use minolta but from what my uncle told me, nikon is the best brand for slr cameras... i'm not sure if your country has better slr camera brands than nikon so i can't really suggest a brand

I like bright things so I will go with Lights, I would rather be lighted then on camera. But, I do favor the action as well. I wouldn't make a very good porn star lets just put it that way.
