I don't have sources for my religion XD
But I live in Canada where it is currently legal and think people are *enter bad word here* and *enter several bad words here* for trying to take away the rights of the people. Religion doesn't matter, the fact that they should have the same rights as a married couple does. And I have been given the "marriage is a term from the bible only" but it's not the bible's word, it's not copyrighted and therefore can be applied to any. It used to only be applied to those who join under the "eyes of god" within a church or some such but now atheists get married. Would those against homosexual marriage like to take away the rights of atheists to get married as well?

I don't think religion should have any influence on the laws of this country, however, that doesn't mean I don't believe the citizens of this country shouldn't decide what the lawss are. I think the decision of whether or not to allow gay marriage should be on the state level, as that is always where issues of marriage and society have always been. States created the "legal marriage" status without consideration of religion, but for other purposes, which may or may not be relative in society today, but historically were important. Legally, states only need a rational reason (don't need any objective facts to support it) to create laws the feel would benefit it's citizens. Personally, I am torn on the subject, but I certain don't have a problem with civil unions or other means of obtaining the entitlements that are associated with legal marriage. Additionally, people can still get married in their faith, or other means outside of the legal realm. My religion is not supportive of gay marriage, however, politically they tell us party is not important, but rather voting your conscience and occording to your beliefs.

I do not participate in any organized religion. My personal opinion about 'gay' marriage is that ALL people should be allowed (by governments and religions) to love whomever they want to love. The 'sanctity of marriage' should not be denied to anyone. It should NOT be something that governments OR religion should have ANY say in whatsoever.
Marriage is a HUMAN made institution. It is NOT something that someone's 'god' made, and those people who think they're entitled to run someone else's life should exercise some respect for other opinions.
American Christians are among the most arrogant and hypocritical people on earth. It seems to be just beyond their capacity to understand that there are OTHER religions, some of which have been on earth longer than Christianity and some of which have many, MANY more followers.
Notwithstanding the Christians, there has been more death and destruction caused by religious conflicts than any other kind of dispute.

Religion is the ONLY reason there is a debate in this country.
It completed UNFOUNDED and NAUSEATING that our government, that was FOUNDED on the ideals of SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE can be bullied by the right-wing religious NUTS out there (no offense to the Christians who don't care). We are the freaking United States of America. We will blow up other countries because they didn't agree with us or got in a fight with us, but the SECOND that someone raises a bible and says, "God says NOOOOO!" we freaking tuck our tail between our legs and run!
I can't stand it anymore. I think that everyone should have the right to love and marry any human being they choose, regardless of race, sex, religion, etc. I'm an Atheist, and a HUGE gay rights activist. It sickens me to the very ends of my body to know that people want to argue against true love and happiness.
It also makes me sick because their own divorce rate is higher than anyone else's in the ENTIRE US! Talk about the sanctity of marriage. GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK! That is the most HYPOCRITICAL CRAP I have EVER heard!
Not to mention, I had a CIVIL ceremony with my husband. I'm LEGAL with my COUNTRY, but I wouldn't even DREAM of asking a church to recognize it. I would throw up right then and there. So, why not let the STATE recognize their love with a piece of paper? You don't have to agree with it, but it's a FREE COUNTRY.
I just wish that one day, once the Democrats have officially taken D.C. back over, that the holy rollers will realize that it's a free country, and that their bible has NO SAY on MY LAWS!!!!!!!

A state certificate of marriage, is a state issue. A church can try to influence that decision, but can not make it. My personal belief is that a marriage is a union of 2 opposites. Nature continues to create thru those opposites, and the circle keeps going. Combing a positive with a positive can not continue the natural cycle. Examples of same sex relations in the animal world is an extreme minority. Same sex relations cause alot of grief. Now, I do not mean to generalize....I have only known 4 or 5 couples....but, the relationships seemed to be a bit reliant upon extreme actions and forgiveness. Fights, then making up. Not all are like this, but those I have worked with were very visible and would use their public displays of extreme actions just shy of sex, to make others react.

I don't know if any religious writings from antiquity actually address the actual marital union of two people of the same sex, rather against she sexual acts involved with homosexuality. I am sure that people in ancient times were not concerned with finding a way to get their partner's health care benefits, for instance. I am not gay, not anti-gay either but not sure why they want to get married for any reason other than for social benefits afforded to married people. Myself, I probably would not have married if it wasn't a social "stigma" to have children out of wedlock or because it gave me less security or fewer rights than if I was married. I know, how romantic. We went to city hall.

...The Bible says in John 7:24 (Jesus speaking), "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."
...Acceptance of gay marriage is part of an agenda to force our nation to accept and celebrate the gay lifestyle and to get taxpayer financing for it (like health care for gay couples) - they will also try to force churches and other organizations to hire them and accept them, no matter their personal beliefs or church laws are. They will also want unbridled, unfettered adoption of children, and other supposed "civil rights" - and understand, the gays are not a race like African Americans, American Indians, etc - they are defined solely by their behavior.
...I do not wish to offend anyone, but we must deal with the truth - these are serious matters of our time.
...Passages in the Old and New Testament condemn the homosexual lifestyle - read Romans 1, in particular. Also, look at this passage in 1 Corinthians 6:
... 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,
...10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.
...11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
...As you can see, there are various types of sin here, including homosexuality. SInce it is sin, sin can be forgiven, and therefore there is hope for any homosexual who will turn to Christ and be saved.
...Last, homosexuality is not a safe lifestyle - most gays go from partner to partner, thus increasing the likelihood of disease. The Centers for Disease Control, which is hardly a right-wing group, says that the life-span of the average male homosexual is 41, far below the national average (70-80) for a heterosexual, so how can this be beneficial for our society? The human body just wasn't design for such behavior as that.. Also, homosexuals cannot reproduce - doesn't that say something?
...No one can improve upon God original design for marriage - one man, one woman for life.
...Anyone who is involved in sexual perversions can be forgiven, begin a relationship with God by receiving new life in Christ, and can victory over these sins, and live an abundant life of service to Christ and others.
...I do wish all of you a blessed eternity. I urge you to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and be saved. Acts 16:31

I am going to set aside my Christian answer for this. If the people out in America think that gay marriage and homosexual behavior doesn't harm society, then they need to get a really good book on social history of the Roman Empire. That very behavior along with liberal politics is what destroyed the family unit which is the backbone of any free society. Rome fell because of it.

I think that religion shouldn't try to control people. I don't have a problem with gay marriage.
As for my religion, it doesn't care one way or another. I'm Wiccan and it's not so restrictive.

While I do not believe in "gay Marriage"
It is not for me to judge or for me to decide how one lives there life.
My bible tells me that God created Woman for man not man for man and I lean on that.
But, my Bible also tells me that I am not to judge, there is only one Judge and that is God, So I lean on that as well.
If more people worried about what went on in there own home and not what others were doing, we would all live allot more peacefully.
I see it this way, If your not part of the problem, and your not part of the solution, stay out of it.
