Hey, I'm going to belgium next week and someone that, admittedly I don't completely trust, has told me that there is a religious symbols ban in in Belgium, which means that you can't wear a hijab or burka, or jilbab, or whatever you know it by. I was wondering if this is true? She said that if you wear a burka there, then you could get arrested, which sounds a bit extreme to me... I thought it was just in schools you couldn't have religious symbols.

No there is no ban in Belgium for wearing the Hijab in public although there is a preposed ban for schools and civial servants. I came back from a trip out there last month and it was fanstatic; the only ban there should be is the amount of chocolate shops there are, walking past them adds several pounds to ones thighs! Have a good time when you go there and remember to visit the Grote Market its really nice and chilled out.

At least they're being fair, if it's going on. If one persn or sect can't have a symbol than no one can. And it's hard to pick on someone for their religion when you're passing them in the street if they haven't got a symbol on them.

I do not have direct knowledge of said ban. However, covering ones face so they are NOT identifiable is not a good thing in foreign countries. It could be a terrorist posing as a tourist. I think I would welcome such a ban in our country. It would be for the good of ALL, and I doubt you could honestly call it discrimination.

They are considering banning the full covering of the face. This is ostensibly for 'security' purposes. I don't know about that, tho. In California we track people by their fingerprints, not their faces. Same in Sweden. Maybe Belgium is just backwards.

I THINK THAT NO-ONE SHOULD COVER THEIR FACE WHEREVER THEY ARE --IT IS VERY RUDE NOT TO LET PEOPLE SEE WHO THEY ARE TALKING TO . HONESTY HAS AN OPEN FACE !!!!!!
