He will do it in public. Kids find crude humor funny, and they don't have any social graces (like a lot of men). When he does that, remind him thats a private thing that needs to be done in the bathroom. One day he will embarrass you horribly by saying something like "Whats a Penis" very loud in the grocery store. Brace yourself, hon.

Been there. He is meant to turn into a typical man. Still don't fret it. Good he has a father to emulate. One big problem for a lot of kids. These things have a way of disappearing but when it comes to important issues if his father is a good rule model your son will become a good man. 3 of the critters & there were days I sure wondered about them. Grow up to be great guys they did. Now remember the day comes when they drag home there own little darlings, & complain about the escapades they have pulled. I find myself unabled to resist these few little words.{ Ah! Poor baby} Knowing full well they have been paid back in full.

You have to decide whether you want to condone that kind of behavior or not; by laughing you're at least encouraging him to keep doing it. If you want to cut it off, both you and your husband have to tell him that you don't find his behavior funny any more and that he will embarrass himself if he does this in public. If you don't think it's a big deal, keep laughing.
BTW my 4 1/2 year old daughter and her twin brother spend an endless amount of time telling each other, "Smell my bottom!" after farting, and they both love to "Gas daddy's leg" when they're are sitting on my lap. This behavior is definitely not confined to just boys.

This usually happens to little kids... What you should do is talk to your husband first. Then maybe have an older "cool big kid" come talk play with him. Tell the big kid to set an example. Your son will definetly agree with a good role model like this.

While that made me laugh too, it's still not something you want your child doing in public. Next time he does that say "Excuse you" in a serious voice. Kids that age are just looking for a reaction and if your reaction is laughing, he will think it's okay to do. If your reaction is a serious face that doesn't find it funny, he won't think it's funny either.

I have the same problem...only it is phrases that my husband says from various movies. I'm afraid he is going to call his teacher a beaver one day. I just had a talk with him and made it clear that he cannot go around saying stuff like that. Home is one thing, but school is another.
