Yes, its been blown out of proportion by the media. It really isnt such a big deal! More people die from the common cold in a year than from bird flu

I think bird flu is a crafted scare, to take people's eyes off of the ball, politically speaking. I am sure bird flu is a real thing and is quite harmful, etc. But, I think the likelihood of getting it is far smaller than discussions and articles about it seem to imply.

Well.... first off, stay away from crowds, cities, and places where they keep birds. Traditionally, people have gone to their country homes away from cities when the plagues broke out.
