You probably could give your dog some benadryl, but it would be a better idea to call the vet.

Yes but you must check with your vet as to how much you should admister. My Min Pin is allergic to the yearly shots that he receives so the last time that he got shots his face was swollen really bad. I called the vet and he said to get some liquid Benadryl and he told me how much to give him. He also gets a shot for the allergy problem before the yearly vaccinations, but I keep the Benadryl on hand just in case.

My vet has recommended Benadryl for our dogs. Get the stuff designed for kids, along with a syringe. The dosage on the box is according to weight, and will tell you how many teaspoons to give an 85 pounder.

Take it up in the syringe, which you can also get at the drugstore designed for giving kid their medications. Then, just open her mouth a little and squirt the stuff down.

Yes but the amount is hard to determine. I have a 3lb and a 2lb yorkie and the Vet had to figure the dosage for their weight. Just call the vet.

It is easier to give the liquid benadryl with a syringe. It is hard pushing a pill down a dogs throat.

Benadryl is a safe, inexpensive and effective alternative to corticosteroid hormones such as cortisone, hydrocortisone, and prednisone to control itching. Steroid hormones have many side effects and, as helpful as they are for allergic skin diseases, it is best to reserve them for only the most itchy episodes.

The dose of Benadryl is based on your dog's weight, so check with your veterinarian, he /she can tell you how much Benadryl you can give and how often. Depending on the size of your dog, you may be able to give it twice a day.

Benadryl, while a fairly safe drug, DOES have potential adverse effects and is not for every pet. Benadryl is to be used with extreme caution in patients with glaucoma, prostatic disease, cardiovascular disease, and hyperthyroid, among other conditions. It may also interact with drugs that your pet is taking, so be sure to discuss use of ANY drugs for your pet with your vet first.

Antihistamines (such as Benadryl) are not free of side effects; they are notorious for drowsiness in some individuals. Still, this is vastly preferable to the systemic disruption caused by the corticosteroid group.

Actually vets prescribe benedryl for dogs. But you should consult a Vet to figure out the right dosage and if there is anything else you can help your dog with.

After my boxer is outside, I wipe her paws and coat down with a damp towel to reduce the allergens.

And I give her one benedryl if she is really itchy.

Yep. I actually think you can go to a full pill if she's 85 pounds. Call your vet and ask real quick and they should be able to clarify, unless we have a vet on line.

Yes. I gave it to my terrier all the time who had the same problem. You can go to the vet but a bottle of eyedrops is going to cost you 9 bucks.
