I am 33 yrs old and very afraid to stay in a closed room or even just imagining me in a closed place and trapped in. Sometimes cant even go to film theaters and cant think of going in flight too. This is troubling me of late too much..pls help

Ohhhhh, man. That is so hard on you. I have anxiety about that myself but I have learned to overcome it. Just tell yourself there is nothing to fear (doesn't always work). My phobia about it simply involves the fact that I feel I cannot breathe because there will be no oxygen. That is untrue, but that is how I feel.
Avoid any closed rooms that do not have a window. Movie theaters are very difficult. I have a phobia about catching a cold when I am in a movie theater, so I usually don't go.

Please go to a licensed psychologist who can help you overcome this problem. Best wishes to you. I am glad you don't have agoraphobia. My friend had that and the doctor put her on medication and made her go to places she was afraid of. Now she can go anywhere.

I suffer from claustrophobia and it isnt good. It is very scary for me being in a room. The worst thing i had to endure was being in a small house with many people and a lot of noise, i had a nervous breakdown because of that. I was too upset. Anyway, i think you should talk to someone who is a professional. Take some therapy and the therapists might give you some ideas on how to make your claustrophobia a little less worse. It is such a nuisance that this is happening to you and it isnt fun! But talking to a professional is the best thing. But here are some things you can do about your claustrophobia and some treatments that professionals use:

There are a few kinds of psychotherapy to cure the phobia:

Flooding - This is a form of exposure treatment, where the patient is exposed to confined spaces. The realisation that they have encountered their most dreaded object or situation, and come to no actual harm, can be a powerful form of therapy.

Counter-conditioning - This is a method of systematic desensitization, whereby the patient is taught to use specific relaxation and visualisation techniques when experiencing phobia-related anxiety. The phobic trigger is slowly introduced, step-by-step, while the person concentrates on attaining physical and mental relaxation. Eventually, they can confront the source of their fear without feeling anxious.

Modeling - Similarly, this is where a patient is shown people flooding, and are encouraged to mimic the confidence.
Cognitive behaviour therapy - the person is encouraged to confront and change the specific thoughts and attitudes that lead to feelings of fear.

Medications - Drugs such as tranquilizers and anti-depressants. Drugs known as beta blockers may be used to treat the physical symptoms of anxiety, such as a pounding heart.

I am a bit claustrophobic also as many are,
what I did was crawl under my bed and stare
at the mattress for awhile as it is an enclosed
space , and trained my mind so that I realized
even though I was in a tight place there was
really nothing to be scared of, also I went into
my closet with the door shut with no light on
and went thru the same thought process. All
the time I did this I had someone else in the
room but because I put myself in these sit-
uations for a period of time often and on I got
so that I coped with the problem and even
though there was someone in the room each
time I went through these events, It got so I
could get through them without remembering
that there was someone all the time in the room
with me.

I'm a bit claustrophobic but theres nothing wrong with being in a closed room or air plane. Trust me! You will have to get over this problem. If you get scared, just think about big open spaces and remember that there is nothing at all wrong with a closed room or airplane because you can ALWAYS leave whenever you want.

Hey, I`m claustophobic, too! I don`t have it as much as you do, but I hope I can help. Pretend that you`re in a beautiful, open space. That`s what I do!
