There have been many questions in reference to Floyd after the Baldomir bout. I'm cutting to the chase with this question. A lot of question are phrased in the sense of "is he really that good" " is he ducking fighters" " is he the best pound for pound". What chaps my a** and what it really boils down to is the comments he made in reference to being one of the best, if not the best fighter of all time. As cocky as Leonard was you never heard him say that, and he had the resume to back it up. Although Ali was cocky and talked smack, he fought top shelf/all time great opponents and beat them, that's backing it up. I don't mind when a guy talks smack when his record backs it up. You never heard of Ray Robinson beating his chest saying he was pound for pound the best ever, and he had the resume to back it up. So is PBF an all time boxing great as it stands right now, taking into consideration his record and previous opponents fought?

Would you rank him in the top ten all time?
Top twenty all time?

He said he is one of the all time greats. That means right now. When he proves that he is an all time great, which he hasn't yet, then he can talk smack. Until then he needs to think before he speaks and fight the best fighters out there which he hasn't done since Castillo. Pancho you didn't really answer my question. I'd like you to expand your answer. Thanks.

He's 37-0 a fine record. yes he is 29 but a boxers shelf life isn't that long. when you start hitting your 30's you're getting past your peak. He needs those career defining fights now, if he's going to be considered an all time great. The handpicking of opponents has to stop. TIme is running out.

Thanks Pancho, I might have read to quickly your original answer.

Do your research Smitty, Brad never once said Floyd would lose to Baldomir, His take on the fight was completely opposite. He said Baldomir had no chance. Santana and myself also said Floyd would win, We both hoped he would get BEAT. In that respect there was no chance of that happening.

The guy is undefeated and a champion at 4 different weight classes, meaning he beat four champions to get their title. Without question the man is one of the "all-time" best. He does toot his own horn but as one of my teachers in HS used to say "if you don't toot your own horn who will?"

Everytime he opens a boxing magazine there are articles to help feed his ego, but the articles are based on what he did in the ring, stories that later turn into the basis for historical archives. I've posted PBF's record in several of my answers and won't get redundant here. He beat Castillo, Corrales and Hernandez just to name a few, but those few were top notch themselves. He is in my top ten at SuperFeather for sure.

Addition: The guy is in a lose-lose situation in the eyes of some people. Why? Because if he does fight Oscar, Shane or even Margarito (I'd have to say) those who are obviously not his "biggest fan" are going to say, "Well (so and so) was old or he was already a shot fighter". I guarantee it. Just my opinion put away the rope, ty.

Course he is. You'd be a fool to deny this man's talent inside the ring. Lets put it this way, if he fights Cotto and Pacquiao and wins, I could see myself putting him in my top 10 ATG list...maybe number 10.....or maybe somewhere along the lines of 11 - 15 Dont really know exact spot, have to review BTW this is coming from a big Pacquiao fan who hates Mayweather's personality...well most of it anyway If he retires now, and never fights again....Hes somewhere around 30 - 40 ATG on my list

He's back and with a vengeance!!! I had been doing a lot of blogging on my yahoo 360 and on the political forum.

Brent, on this forum you, santana, brad and several others said that Floyd would lose to Baldomir.

Why are some of you punks hating on Pancho?

Whether he could beat Hearns or not has nothing to do with his greatness!!!

Robinson didn't beat on his chest but he did say that he was the best.

To santana - If the scorecards say you won then you won. You are entitled to your opinion but not your own set of facts.

I rank no active fighters. After Floyd is retired, I would probably rank him in my top 15. After I study it then I will determine what weight class or classes.

In my opinion no, not yet. He is an outstanding fighter who has beaten some very good fighters, but i think he needs to win a few more fights against the best fighters available in the 140-154 range before i can say he's an all time great. And i agree with Pancho, it does not matter what he says, he can say he's better that Leonard, Joe Louis, Robinson, Ali, or whoever, but the people always have the last word and you can't fool the boxing public. I do agree with you Brent that he is at 29 getting to the age where he has to take these big fights right now. So lets see if he steps it up and goes for the elite fighters in his weight class. If he does not, then he may just be remembered as a fighter who could've been an all time great but came up short. (see Mike Tyson). And i have to respectfully disagree with my man Santana D. I recall people saying that Corrales was going to kill Mayweather before they fought, and you saw what happened to Corrales. He got blitzed.

Brent ~
Let me ask you and everybody else here in this forum a question that is meant to answer your question (I hope I didn't confuse you) Could you see Floyd fighting and beating a in his prime 147 pound Tommy Herans?
Undoubtedly Tommy is a great fighter. I don't need to sit here and write to why Tommy is Great anyone who has the privilege to see this man FIGHT knows what I'm writing about. There's one thing that I will bring up though that completely seperates good from Great, Floyd from Tommy, it was Tommy taking fights that you or I or the public in gerneral thought that there was no way he could win and fight those fights. Tommy trained hard and fought Hagler, Leonard, Duran and Barkley, win, lose or draw he would fight and fight well, he would go out with his arms raised in victory or on his his back in defeat but the guy would fight the very best out there.
Sure Floyd's undefeated but so is Heavyweight Valuev is he great too? Floyd has fought only handpicked opponents so far. There has been nobody that the boxing public has said " Geez, I don't think Floyd can beat this guy." or "Floyd is probably going to get knocked out." until this happens he's just a good fighter beating up on weak competition.

A little tid bit for Cool Breeze, weeks before their first fight word was going around that Castillo was having a crazy time getting down to weight. The fight came and he weighed right on the numbers. During the fight he pushed around the much smaller Mayweather and pretty much did what he wanted to do to him, he won that fight regardless of what the score cards read,
In their second fight Castillo thought that he easily won the first fight and figured that if he could do it the first time he wouldn't have to change anything to do it the second time, well, he was wrong the wear and tear on his body fron cutting as much as 30 pounds before each of their fights was too much on him and I must give credit to Floyd for making the proper adjustments.
Jim Lampley from HBO said three weeks before the Castillo fight that "Castillo only has a punchers chance, Floyd is by far the superior boxer and has been through less wars, there isn't any reason to believe that Floyd will lose this one." Pretty much all the boxing experts were picking Floyd to win this fight, he was never the underdog, even Vegas had him a 3 to 1 favorite.

Not in any of my postings did I write Carlos would beat Floyd! I wrote I hoped he beat Floyd and gave him a beating rather knock him out, but NEVER wrote that he would beat Floyd. Once again we have someone distorting the facts, I wonder you can that be?

Man, I like all these Mayweather questions. It's keeps us talking about him, that's for sure. Well Brent, i'll put it like this, it's obvious that some people like Mayweather and some people don't and that's what makes this forum so cool is that we can all agree to disagree. Now to answer your question, I think Floyd is a excellent fighter in terms of skills and talent and surely if he keeps winning he's on the way to being great, but to call him an all time great right now is a little premature because although he's fought some outstanding, world class fighters, he hasn't had those career-defining fights just yet like Ali had against Frazier and Foreman or Leonard had against Hearns, Duran and Hagler. I think he needs to fight and beat say,a De la Hoya or a Mosley and the rest of the welterweights like Margarito and Paul Williams. Maybe even Hatton and Cotto. As i previously stated in another answer, there are still some fights out there that he should fight and he will have to if he is serious about wanting to be looked at in the same light as Ali, Robinson, Leonard and other all time greats. And remember, his career is not done yet. He's only 29 so let's wait and see what happens and who he fights in his next few fights. As of right now, i'd say it's too soon to call him an all time great. But the best in boxing right now in my opinion. Brent, you asked as it stands right now, is he an all time great? and i answered the question, i said no, it's too soon to call him that. It doesn't matter what he said, you asked for my opinion(as well as others on the forum) and i gave it to you. I don't quite know what type of answer you're looking for.

Quite simply the answer is No.

But the frustrating thing is that he definitely has the capacity to be an all time great but is choosing not to go down that route. I don't think i will ever like him as a person and i don't like the way he is boxing at the moment, but his boxing skills are there for all to see i just wish he would use them in a more assertive fashion and against worthy opponents.

First of all, u put an excellent explanation about him.

Yes, he is the best in the last 3 years,
but he still is not the All-Time Number one.

He ha not fought yet ODLH
nor Mosley
noe Margarito
nor Winky Wright

He should fight them first, and if he win Yes he will be

He is not even a good fighter so its way to extravagant to consider him a great boxer. Like that one dude said, he has no memorable fight, and for you to be a great fighter, you have got to be sometime in your boxing career be involved in a memorable bout or something like a rivalry. He plays to win....I know that, but no KO punch....sorry I cant handle that.

Here's the thing, there is a really big buzz going on in the Philippines right now that after Manny pacquiao disposes Morales, his next goal is to either unanimously take over that weightclass where he is in now or move up to challenge Mayweather. I cant wait to see that.

I think floyd is a world class boxer that has reached master status, but I don't have him down as an all time great.

I know he likes to say he dominated for a decade...etc, but he boxed for a decade, he wasn't a champion all those years.....Guys like Bernard Hopskins and Roy Jones Jr. ,whom was actually awarded boxer of the decade, were champions for over 10 years while they dominating.

Guys like that you can call great. Floyd still has to get some more top fights under his belt in my opinion.

Top Ten... NO
Top Twenty....NO
