loving someone is when you keep on thinking about him or her and cant stop talking about him or her, he or she is always someone you want to be with and share things with. When you cry you want him or her to cheer you up, when you laugh you want to be laughing with him or her.
i dont think its the same, love and in love is different. but i'm not sure whether i'm right or not, i guess in love it means you are having the strong feelings the chemistry going on and the next thing you know maybe making out and sex. while just "do you love me?" its opposite, not 100% sure though.

“in love” : A temporary state of love. Can last up to 1 ½ years, but usually shorter. It is based on thirst of love, a constant need to be satisfied, but never is. Someone “in love” can never get enough and wants to be near the one they are in love with 24/7. It is a clouded state of mind.
As they say, “love is blind” the person “in love” will make decisions to please the one they are in love with even if it hurts them. At the time they do not even realize they are doing so. Only after the “in love” period is gone do they see what they have done. They do this due to the fear of losing the person and fearing losing the feelings they get while being with this person.
pure love is: unfiltered, unconditional, comes with acceptance, caring, and non-judgmental. It comes to you from the giver without strings. Never wanting or needing anything in return. It is not a love that is craved, or lusted for. It is gentle, soft, always there. When this love exist between two people, they can be apart for days, months, or even years and be as connected as they had never been apart.
It’s warm, calm, happy, joyful, with feelings of inner peace.
then there is love for family...

Being in love with someone generally implies a sexual form of love (even if there's no sex involved.) Loving someone, on the other hand, is best(?) described as caring so much about them that you would put their well bing ahead of your own.

you can love anyone...your friends, your parents, your pet
to be in love with someone is different. You want to spend the rest of your life with them and you would do anything for them. There is commitment and intimacy with the person you are in love with.
