I am pretty sure he thinks this is what he is supposed to do because sometimes he lays in it just to go to the bathroom. How can I stop this?

He is just over a year old and he is not neutered.

If he was trained on puppy pee pads he is thinking that is what it is. If this is the case then he's a little confused. I would toss it, (beds aren't that expensive, and if he's gone in it a lot, well it'll be hard to keep the smell out of it. I was just as Sams & they had some nice ones there for 24.99) Retrain him to go outside instead of inside the house. I prefer Kennel training myself, it gives the dog a safe place to go if he is scared & it keeps him out of mischief. If you don't want to do that then I'd keep everything off the floor & just keep taking him outside, give him rewards for every time he goes outside. Try to keep from yelling at him if he has accidents at first. After he gets the outside thing down bring back a bed & hopefully everything will work (if you did Kennel train him I'd put the bed in his kennel at first so that he won't even think that it's something to go on.) Congrats on your new pet! Have fun with him.

I own a Bulldog as well. He does the same thing. I have NO idea why? I've asked my Vet and a dog trainer and all of them said they shouldn't do it. The thing that worked for me was to throw it away. I use a blanket now. He seems not to pee on the blanket and if he does it's small enough that I can just throw it in the wash. Try that. Good luck!

Maybe it has a funny smell and he doesnt like it. try (wash it first) put it in your bed (if it isnt to big) or put some of your worn clothes on it to make it smell good to him. If he looks like he is going to pee in it take him out and make him do it elsewhere. then when he is done take him to the bed and say "lay down" he might need a gentle push on his back to back up what you said. When he does this give him a treat and make a fuss over him. Continue doing this and hopefully it will work! Good luck!

If he is not neutered, or does marking....scents of other dogs may be on that bed, coming from a pet store. He could be marking it at his own.
