He is either mental or has a great gift. It is up to you to figure out which it is.

lol He is yelling at the only person he can.

It is a perfectly normal outlet of his need to control his surroundings. If the dog is willing to put up with it don't worry. If however the dog is annoyed you may want to curtail it.

Kids frequently feel like they are not in control of anything, they will then hit people, act up, or boss their toys around. No big deal. At least if he is yelling at the dog he is happy, the dog probably doesn't care, and he isn't doing anything "bad" like hitting.

Well my neighbor is a police officer and has 3 dogs and she argues with them all the time. So does my sister in law she has
about 10 dogs and she has conversations with them and for some weird and crazy reason these dogs understand! So I don't think its so weird..

Depends on who wins most of the arguments.

Seriously, though, I doubt he's hallucinating. He may, however, be acting out conflict in his life in other places. Are you aware of any stressful relationships in his life right now? Perhaps at odds with friends and yet to be resolved, not seeing eye to eye with authority figure in his life like a teacher, or perhaps...his parents? Sounds like he's got some points to make he's trying to communicate, but in a setting or circumstance where he doesn't feel he's allowed to fully speak his mind.

Hope that helps.

Best to you.

I'm 20 and I argue with my cat. However, if it makes you nervous, ask what the dog is being stubborn about. If he truly believes the dog is talking to him, then you may want to have him talk to a psychologist.

Of course, he might be a Doolittle. :-)

No. Sounds like typical 11 year old behavior.

I really thought I could communicate with my dog when i was a kid. As a result she learned about as much english words as a 6 year old and could do any number of tricks and behaviors. She knew me better than anyone else, and was the coolest damn dog ever EVER. I swear she understood me like a real person.

I'd just leave him alone.

LOL no I think he's just letting his imagination run away with him. I think you should talk to your son, and tell him that it's ok to play a game of talking to the dog, but it's not ok to act angry and storm off like that. If you find this behavior unacceptable when he does it to anyone else, then this should be no exception. It's not the dog we're worried about; it's your son's attitude. :) If however, he really believes that the dog is talking to him, it may be time to consult a psychologist! Hope this helped.

it's probably just like how some kids have imaginary friends that they talk to. his friend is the dog. i don't think you should think he's crazy like a bunch of these other people say because he's just being a kid and kids act weird. i attached a link about imaginary friends. the best thing to do if you're really that concerned is ask the doctor.

Maybe the dog has more interesting things to talk about. You obviously do not. He's 11! He's either gifted or, he's normal.

Interesting.....either is has a very active imagination or he really can talk to dogs. Is it with any other animals? Try to get more out of him to see what is going on... Good Luck

I wouldn't doubt him. He very well could be talking with the dog. If he starts doing other strange or different things then I might worrie.
