Go to your state FOI (freedom of information)office and file a complaint. There may be a legitmate reason (open investigation etc) but after 11+years thats not going to hold much water. If you can't make progress the media tends to get things done. start making calls. There is no reason why a family can't get information after this much time.... Best of luck to you.

You don't give much information so anything anyone posts will just be a wild guess.
Perhaps you are, or someone very close to you is, a suspect? I don't say that to be a smart-aleck, just to offer a valid reason for the investigating agency not wanting to share information with you.
Also, if this is a small community situation, perhaps your local officials are concerned that something in the circumstances surrounding your son's death will cause you more pain than being uninformed. They don't really have the right to decide that for you but they may just be feeling responsible for protecting you.
Of course there's always the possibility of police incompetence or even corruption. As a victim's parent you should have a right to pursue the issue. Try a Google search for victim advocate groups, perhaps you will find an organization of persons who have been through similar situations who can offer real advice.
After more than ten years though I would say you are due at least a long personal chat with the chief detective.

I am so sorry to hear about your sons death and the police failing to give you any details. I would go to my local representatives and demand an answer. If that doesnt work, keep going up the ladder, to your congressman, state attorney general, the fbi until you can get the details. It smells of a police cover-up to me.

First of all sorry about your son.
Patricia, you are asking this question at wrong place. PLEASE make a one page letter and send it to all the news papers and than sleep tight..I swear they will dig the matter and they have power....Police could not ignore him or otherwise media will screw them up badly.......OR you can also try to invite them at your place to take your story and help you out....try it,
Goodluck.

George seems to have it.
If he wasn't married, YOU are next-of-kin, and should receive the information. Contact the DA... if they aren't forthcoming, contact your Representative to the State Government... if THEY aren't forthcoming, contact a lawyer!
My condolences

Great response George. Unless it is an open investigation, I know of no reason why you could not find out more.
