What did He sound like? Did he have an accent, was his voice booming and powerful?
So many Christians have professed that they have a 'personal relationship with God', so they must have a scoop on how The Creator sounds.

Or is it not really a voice, and the message is just 'imagined'?

And if it's just imagined, is it possible that the belief that it was God who was speaking to you was a case of wishful thinking?

Or is He just a good listener?

I'd really love to hear from someone who has actually heard Him speak, and so can answer the first parts of my question.

JayLo - I'm asking a question to which I WANT a definitive answer. How is that being a smart @$$?

Booellis - I'll read 'Conversations with God' and you read 'The God Delusion' by Richard Dawkins. I'm open to be educated. Are you?

Angeltress - all those things you mention can be experienced by 99.99% of everyone on earth. I would like to hear from 1 person from a possible 6 BILLION who has heard the voice of God. Your argument is ridiculous compared to mine.

Well he certainly had a British accent, or was it French, or may be Russian with a hint of Greek, then again I could swear there was a strong hint of Aramaic in there? Wasn't his son a Jew?, and his prophet a guy called Mohamed?

It sounded like a voice but another person in the room couldn't hear it.

It wasn't imagined in the usual sense nor was it a 'hearing voices' kind of voice.

It's not wishful thinking quite the opposite I didn't want to hear what He had to say, at least at the time.

There was something about it that seemed so convincing that there could be no doubt about it. It had the same ring of truth to it as the 'still small voice', only there wasn't anything small about it.

Since then I've become a Quaker.

I hesitate to say that this was from God, but once in a meditation I ask for help understanding the meaning of our oneness with God. This is the answer that I got. You decide.

I am the ocean, you are the raindrops. We are the same. You raindrops, because of your similar size and location, see yourselves as separate, as units, as individuals. This perception of your selves has been your only reality since you were born in the clouds. You have no other perspective of your selves. As you fall through your short lives here, you see the ocean far below. On a certain level you understand that it and you are one and the same. You envy its magnificence. The thought comes,” I am water too, am I not also part of this magnificence?” Then you realize that you are but an insignificant raindrop. You can only look at that distant ocean in awe. The ocean with its timeless knowledge sees you quite differently. It sees you for what you really are. Its most precious children, bravely returning home to share the experience that ocean as a whole could never have experienced. The ocean has nothing but love for you. Because it understands that it is you, and that you are it. It knows only truth. Until the moment you reunite you can only speculate. The ocean's love for you is unconditional. It holds no foolish thought of punishing you for not falling quite right. It only waits with great patience for your homecoming.

The tiny collisions you had with the other drops on the way down, at the time seemed so significant. Often you feared that if you mingled with them too long you might get to close and in the process even lose your identity. All this because you understood your true identity not! You are ocean, you always were ocean, you always will be ocean. How you currently perceive yourself raindrop, snow flake, puddle, stream, River, or lake matters not. This is all illusion, only perception. You are ocean, you are spirit. You and I are one; we are the All That Is

I was not a "believer" when I "heard" God's voice the first time. I entered a holy place with one who was a believer. As the woman I was with knelt to pray I, very clearly, heard a voice say to me " Get out you are not welcome here"... I got out... It was not a booming voice from the clouds. It was not an angry or hostile voice. but it was a voice with very clear authority and power. It's power was ,to me, frightening enough that it motivated me with out question. The woman I was with did not hear any thing and there were no others present... I suppressed this event for many years.... 29 yrs latter I became one of The True Christian Faith. On The day after my acceptance by Faith I was in a small church outside the town I live in. I was offered my first communion... As I completed that sacred act I said silently 'Thank you God'... I very clearly and distinctly heard exactly the same voice I had heard years before and thousands of mile away... There is no doubt in my mind who was speaking.... I clearly heard "you are Welcome".... I know now that if I am ever able to return to that holy place that I will be received as a member of The Family of God.

add note... I have in the past been known to imbibe a bit... I have Heard some strange things... this was not my "imagination"... When God actualy speaks, in whatever way he chooses, there is no doubt who is speaking... God will never speak in any way contradictory to what is known by his people to be His Word and Will... yes, many do "claim" to have heard God telll them to do some very bad and terrable things... Going to God's Word will reveal that those things are infact against God's Word... But... he dose speak to his people... more often than is reported... as most of what he speaks is for the individual and not for any "revelation of new word". Any who claims to be a "prophet of God today and to speak directly for God is deluded at best and a fraud at worst with evil intent...

You should read the book "Conversations with God". The author can answer all your questions.
One more thing; having a personal relationship with God doesn't mean that you talk to God, but I'm sure you already know that.

What makes you think ANYONE alive has actually heard God speak?

Anyone who claims that God has spoken aloud to them has only heard a message from Satan and invited him right on in.

Have you ever tried to talk to someone who totally refuses to acknowledge your existence...say, a parent, spouse, or child, maybe?
Isn't it amazing, how they can block out your voice?
Do you suppose that's why so many cannot hear the voice of God speaking to them??

Just a thought....

Could you explain music to someone who has never heard it? Would you tell them about the mathematics involved, or help them to feel the vibrations when the music is playing?
How would you tell someone what your favorite food tastes like, who has never tasted it? Would you tell them about texture, about sweet or sour?
Amazing, isn't it??

People who I know who say have 'spoken' to God, say that they speak through their mind, so there's not much 'speaking' involved. However, they say that there's no definite voice, and they just "know" it is him.

How they 'know' is beyond me, but I thought that might help.

Ok smart @$$. I'll tell you what, I haven't hear Gods voice, but I don't need to. You can't see or hear love, but you can (usually) tell when someone loves you or not. I know God, personally. And in spite of your dismissal of his existance, he would like to know you too.
