Make sure it is a progestin-only pill. You DO NOT want to be on a pill that contains estrogen while BFing.
It may be that your child increased nursings and this has delayed your period. I had long (50+ days) periods sometimes the first few months after they returned and it took a while for them to fall into a predictable pattern.

No you can't be pregnant and not have the hormones show up on the pregnancy test at the doctor. A home test can be wrong but the lab results wont be. The pill just tells your body it is time to have your period just like your body would if you had your period anyway. Your body is just messed up from having your new baby. I would talk to your doc about the breast feeding part. Anything you put in your body will come out in the milk So make sure from your doctor prescribing it that he/she knows. Good luck!

With a 5 month old breastfeeding, you're not likely to have regular periods. It's also quite common not to get them at all when you're breastfeeding. What is the doctor's concern about you not having a period right now? Might be best to ask that and go from there.

Usually you don't get your period back until 6 months later after giving birth if you breastfeed, sometimes longer. It doesn't mean though that you cannot be pregnant because you don't have your period. I just don't understand why your doctor is in a hurry to put you back on the pill especially when he knows you breastfeed and that you told him that you are worried that you may be pregnant. My doctor said that it's not safe to take birth control pills and breastfeed, she said that in order to be on a pill then the baby would have to be weaned. The pills would damage the fetus or would cause miscarriage if you are actually pregnant too.

Talk to your doctor and follow his advice. Make sure he knows that you are still breastfeeding. He won't advise you to take something you shouldn't take when breastfeeding. If you took 2 urine test and a blood test and all were negative then you don't need to worry about being pregnant.

Don't stress. Some lucky women do not have periods while breastfeeding. I would tell the doctor no thank you for the pill and just wait.

There's no reason you have to have a period. I wouldn't take it. It's totally normal not to have a period while you're nursing. I didn't get a single period until my nursing daughter was 20 months old. The fewer periods you have in your life the lower your risk for ovarian, uterine, and breast cancer. Just enjoy not having to deal with it- it will be back soon enough on its own.

Some women don't get their periods..you are still breastfeeding. If your blood work show you aren't pregnant...why do you need to have a period. It took me 11 months to get my period back after having my son. I nursed exclusively till he was 7 months old...when I weaned him my period started to come back. I would ask for a better explainantion as to why you have to have your period.

breastfeeding can cause you to miss your period! in all likelihood thats probably why you havent had one. I dont see the point in starting the pill, but it wont hurt.
