It is *mankind* that portrays God as angry and threatening. He has no reason to be angry or to threaten. He has left us to our own devices to choose and suffer the consequences of a bad decision so we will learn. When we make bad decisions, and suffer because of it, many blame God. It's just silly!

Some one has just asked if you meant the Jewish God.
I'm losing track here, isnt the Jewish God the same as the Christian God? How many Gods have you got?
I also thought the Islamic God was the same God? looks like was wrong?
Then again I also thought that 'Jesus' was God as part of the Holy Trinity!!
What a puzzle it all is isnt it??
Then again I thought the 'Bible' and the commandments were something to do with Moses, then along comes the 'New Testament', and then the 'Koran' and all sorts of other Holy books, I just cant keep up with it all.

Because that's how the people who created, told and wrote down those stories saw him. In other words, because that's how they expected gods to behave.

What outsiders rarely understand about Judaism is that it keeps its entire tradition alive, even the parts that it disagrees with or finds uncomfortable a millenia or three later. The angry and threatening G-d is one aspect and something that we struggle to put in context or understand -- and Judaism is so much the richer for that dialogue.

The image that I like best is av ha'rachamim, translated as 'merciful father'. Rechem, mercy, is also womb. Think about that one. :-)

The One True God, The Creator of All. Is not "always" angry and thereatening?. for those who have a true relationship with God His love is very much the greater presence. For those who are able to read The Bible of The True Christian Faith by The leading of The Holy Spirit, God's love is the overwhelming force of His Word and Will.

>> I think you mean the Jewish God?

HAHAHAHA. That's what Semetic means. :P

Mostly because Jews don't believe in the literal god - they understand the old testament as a collection of stories. Go ahead - just ask a Jew if they believe in the stories of the old testament as real fact or not.

You misunderstand what you are reading. God's anger is righteous anger, meaning that it has a positive purpose to it. Man's anger is unrighteous because it never has a heavenly purpose.

I think you mean the Jewish God? He was frustrated with his chosen people, Israel, which is why he always seemed uptight. In reality he is a kind Creator who wants a personal relationship with us all.

he's not really *angry*, he's just ticked off that the hebrews keep ignoring what he says.
