Actually, there is an answer to this. Evolutionarily, the egg came first. There were eggs long before there were chickens. After we bred domestic animals, we eventually got a pre-chicken from a NON-chicken egg...which we then began breeding further until it was made into what we now call chickens today.
Lizards lay eggs, snakes lay eggs...other birds lay eggs. These eggs yielded something close and closer to the chicken over millenia.
Not to ruin your joke. But it's been answered. Only strict creationists believe the chicken came first...that it popped up out of nowhere, created by the hand of god. That's crap, of course. We have dinosaur eggs to prove it's not true.
