I used to work in a hair salon, so take my advice, you should have your hair colored (or do it yourself) every 4 to 6 weeks depending on the amount of re-growth and how long you can stand to see the roots. It is my opinion that using color locking shampoo's and conditioner will protect the color, but stay away from toning shampoo's or color enhancing products. These will change the color that has been applied to your hair, when you have your color done the next month, it will deposit a little differently on your hair.

also, maintaining healthy hair helps seal in the color, and helps it to deposit as closely to the mix as it should. It wouldn't hurt to treat your hair once a week with a heavy conditioner after you color. If you have unhealthy hair, the color WILL NOT deposit correctly. The best way to have a conditioning treatment at home is to buy a heavy conditioner of your choice, and slather it all over your dry hair. Wrap your hair up in a shower cap and let it soak in for about 10-15 minutes and then rinse away clean. Be sure that you don't do these conditioning treatments prior to color. The treatments will make the hair slippery and color will be unable to deposit!

I hope I offered some help!

It depends on the kind of dye you use. I used to have black with blonde, and I dyed the blonde pink. I had to redye the pink bits every three weeks because it was temporary dye, and I got the black and blonde redone every 2 months because my hair grows very fast and dye fades really quickly on it. If you dye your hair blonde, it will become dry and start snapping off if you dye it every month. If your hair is dyed blonde, touch up the roots as and when they need it and leave the rest. I get my hair dyed purple every two months or so and I've had no problems with it. But I always go to a hairdressers so that it's the good quality colour- it costs more than doing it at home but the colours are made from different chemicals and they seem to mess up your hair less. I wouldn't dye your hair any more often than every six weeks unless it's a very bright colour like scarlet or blue than washes out really quickly.

it depends on how often you wash it. i used to was mine every 3days but recently i've been washing it every 5days and the colour stays in longer. you should also choose a good brand for your dye and use a shampoo for dyed hair.
