Both my parents (in their 80's) have stage 1 melanoma. Whenever a lesion shows up their doctor removes it. They havn't had any other type of treatment, and I don't think they plan to.

My mother was advised to have surgery on her nose, but she felt it was too radical. She went to a different doctor who agreed to scrape the cancer cells on a regular basis. I wouldn't recommend this approach for everyone, but it is working for my Mom.

My Dad has had numerous lesions removed (he's outdoorsmen and the melanoma come from too much sun). He has taken the same approach as my mother and whenever a lesion appears he has it removed.

They both have excellent quality of life and no other major health issues.

Neither have had lympth node involvement. Sounds like the melanoma in your case has moved beyond stage 1 and 2.

I have a sister who had it on her foot so no lymph nodes removed. She had a pretty deep/wide incision to have it removed & is now about 8 yrs. cancer free. It was an agressive form of melanoma also so she has done well. She also endured a pill form of chemo after for a few months.
