My sister wants to get married, so she turned to me for help (like I would know. I was married in Canada).

She needs to go to her county courthouse--the courthouse for the county she currently resides in. She needs to go to the Probate Court office inside the courthouse and talk to them and see what she needs to do--some states require blood tests, and almost all states require a three day waiting period between the time the license is applied for and the time it's picked up. Both of the people applying for the license need to go when applying.

She needs to check and see how long the license is valid for--most are only valid for 30 days once they're given out.

Contact the County Clerk or Probate Court. It's usually at the courthouse. Every state is different and it also varies from county to county.

Most have recorded info. It will tell you what ID you need, the cost, any special papers such as a divorce decree or visa you also will need. Both bride & groom need to apply. Some even require you to bring a witness for the application.
Sometimes there is a waiting period before you get your license. Some require you to wait a few days after you get the license before you can get married.

If your sis is anywhere near the Gulf have her contact this Reverend. Pam does ALOT of gulf weddings.

We went to our city-county building to get ours. I would have her call her city building to ask exactly where she is suppose to go.
