Tonsils are the once to help your body release different types of enzymes and harmones which will act as the first aid or the first battle against any harmful bacteria or virus that get into your body.
Like when you catch cold, or trying to fight fever etc.
If I were you, i would get it treated instead of getting them removed unless if they are often bothering you. If taken out they are not much of a hassel, but i would get them removed only if that was the last resolution

Yes you should have your tonsils removed. The bad thing about having enlarged tonsils is it can become difficult to swallow food. The food can get stuck in your throat and cause you to choke and this is bad.

Since your doctor recommended you to have them removed, take his advice and have it done. Tonsil removal usually is a same day procedure unless you have complications from the surgery. You will not be able to eat solid foods for a few days, but the best thing you can eat is Popsicles that have pedialite in them. They will keep you from dehydrating and also will keep your electrolite levels up. You can drink warm chicken or beef broth for more nutrician.....Raman noodle soup if you break up the noodles into small pieces, you can drink that also.

Good Luck
