I had this chicken salad and mixed it all around and was about half way done when I chewed a piece of raw chicken... I didn't swallow it however it was in my mouth and I don't know how much of the eaten salad it had touched. What are my odds of getting Salmonella and is there anything I can do to prevent it?

I think you should call your lawyer. There may be millions in it for you. Congratulations! I've been hoping for luck like yours. Sadly, I'm left without.

Hopefully, as it was only small, you'll be ok. You should have sent the salad back, even if there was only a little left. Remember everything you can about the restaurant, time of meal, etc, in case you do get ill and the the premises have to be investigated. I hope it doesn't come to that, but maybe it would be a good idea to ring the restaurant and tell them you didn't want to complain at the time, and have just found out how serious eating raw chicken is. Tell them you wouldn't like anyone else to be served the chicken in case of health problems. Don't think alcohol is a good idea, maybe just keep flushing your system with water. Hope you're ok.

I would think you'll be fine. Are you sure the chicken was raw? I would certainly call the restaurant and inform them so that they can remove this from the menu until the get it fixed and also if you do get sick you will have put them on notice that there is a problem.

Those fu-kin restaurants! You should be okay but I would rinse my mouth out with peroxide and mouth wash. I would inform the restaurant about what happened and report it to the health department. That is really disgusting! Food at restaurants are not safe anymore and that's scary. Dont worry at least you didnt eat it.

This happened to me once and someone told me to have some alcohol! i did and never got sick! if you are of age, have a stiff drink - right away. That should kill any bacteria hanging around.
good luck. i think you'll be fine.

Don't worry about it. If that's the worst food thing to ever happen to you it will be a miracle.
