No danger.... the body adapts to a sleep routine, which is why some people could go day-to-day on 5 hours sleep, while some may require 9. If you sleep for 16 hours, generally your body is telling you that you need the rest, but if you do this on a regular basis, the only thing you're doing is wasting your life away. If you figure the average life-span of a human being is 75 years and 16/24 hours (2/3) you ssleep, then 50 years ofyour life is spent sleeping.... yikes!!!

Once in awhile, this isn't a problem. If you find that you are sleeping for 14 or 16 hours straight on a regular basis - this can be a sign of Major Depressive Disorder. As far as dangers from sleeping too long on a regular basis - it will be counterproductive, you'll tend to wake up more tired and feeling weaker than if you were only sleeping 7 to 9 hours a night. You can risk becoming dehydrated, stressing your bladder and loosing muscle tone.

If you are occasionally sleeping 16 hours or so, it is not a problem, in so far as you may not be getting sufficient sleep most nights and you are making up a sleep deficit on the weekends or your days off.
If you are sleeping 16hrs every day, or most days a week, you need to see a doctor to make sure that there is no medical reason for your excessive fatigue like anemia or illness.
If you remain in bed all the time, you do start to lose muscle conditioning, because you are not bearing weight often enough by walking and physicial activity. bedridden people often have weakness and loss of coordination when regaining mobility for this reason. it's similar to the astronauts in space. on the other hand, if you really like being in bed, NASA is desparately trying to recruit paid (http://www.bedreststudy.com/default.aspx )volunteers for a research study on weightlessness. If you oversleep, your body starts to feel lethargic. The more you sleep, the more your body wants to continue sleeping. If you sleep too long, it is difficult to get your body back on its appropriate amount of sleep. It isn't dangerous to do a few times because whenever you miss an hour of sleep it puts your body back 3 hours but if you do it every night, you'll experience sleep lag.

I think the biggest danger to sleeping too long is you are missing out on making money and preparing for your future. Glenn kawesch

I'd see someone about that. Danger is your sleeping your life away. Do you feel tired when you wake up? Did you have a few before going to bed? :) Seriously, I would talk to someone about it cause if this is on a regualr basis that can't be good.

Yes . there is. its not good to sleep long hours. sleeping to long increases the toxins in the blood and to much toxins leads to weight problems and that leads to heart problems in short your life span is reduced to half the norm.
