My assingment is to ask several people's opinions for the following questions (I need to finish it by tonight!):

1.What is sin?

2.Are all people sinners?

3.Do people become sinners or do they sin because they are sinners?

4.(Assuming that you believe in God) What is God's penalty for sin, if any?

5.Are there penalties that occur on earth for sins in a person's daily life?

If you choose to answer, please answer all of the questions and be honest. Thanks so much! Oh, if you could list your sources too that'd be great!

Thanks to those of you who actually answered my questions. And by the way, I'm not trying to start a debate here RocketScienceWannaBe. 1. Just becuase the Roman Catholic church states something at one point in time doesn't make them always right or make other believers now stupid and comepletely clueless about science.
2. The Bible does mention dinosaurs. The book of Job mentions Laviothin which is believed to be a sea-dwelling dinosaur. I know there's at least one more verse that mentions a dinosaur, but I don't remeber what it is right now. Please try to be curtious to others. Oh, and just so you know, just becuase the Bible doesn't mention something, doesn't mean that it's not true.

Sin is anything and everything that goes against God. That could be thoughts, desires, actions...and so on. There are many ways scripture speaks of sin, Two of the more important are "missing the target" and " falling short of God"

#2
Yes, ALL people are sinners.

#3
Both -We are born into sin, and we sin because we are sinners.
We are selfish beings that follow our flesh instead of the spirit.

#4
The Bible says that God will discipline us for our actions. I wouldn't call it penalty, but rather discipline if you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.
This may include illness, hardship, earthly battles, and other situations in our lives that keep us in battle. Just as parents discipline their children, God will do that same to us. This is done to bring us to where we need to be.
Penalty for the non believer is spiritualy death- separation from God. Full penalty for sin, includes both spiritual and physical death ( Romans 6:23; 7:13)
However, this doesn't mean that every illness or battle is a discipline from God. Satan plays a HUGE role in casting out pain and suffering on us. Either way, we need to place our hope and faith in the Lord and He alone will get us get through whatever it is.
Suffering/discipline can be a result of Satanic affliction- example(JOB 1-2)
or as a result of Gods discipline - example (Hebrews 12:5-11)

#5
Again, Yes, God may discipline us on earth for sins in our lives.
By reading the Bible you will see many times throughout the Bible people were disciplined and even killed because of their sins.

NOTE: This is not intended to place judgement on anyone or their beliefs, only to answer your questions using scripture from the BIble.

1. Sin is the willful act of rebelling against God.

2. All people are born sinners. - I don't care who you are or what you believe, this one is obvious.

3. Once again, we are born sinners, and I don't understand why we continue to sin sometimes even after being saved or when we don't want to. But thats what makes God's love and forgiveness all the more wonderful.

4. God's penalty for sin is death, yet, because he loves us so much, he sent his son to take the punishment for us. All you have to do is believe, and yes, obey his commands.

5. I think usually yes, our sins do affect us here on earth, sometimes months or years down the road. Sometimes you will suffer for a past sin even after you have been saved; don't be mad when it happens because you know you deserve it.

To the asker- feel free to use my answers if ya want, but please at least change the wording, and also let me say stay in the church and don't give up.

To anyone who may be rolling their eyes at my answers- hey don't take it from me just open a Bible. If you do not believe in the Bible but you do believe in God, just ask him then.

To atheists- I have nothing to say to you monkeys.

To Rocket Science- your website is rediculously opinionated and not a really good source, as for carbon dating...sheesh and you say the Bible is inconsistant? Yes carbon dating says that bones are millions of years old, but do you know how it works? It would take much too much typing to explain, but I suggest you research it because it is a VERY inaccurate source, which is only some-what accepted because it "supports" the THEORY of evolution. All other evidence points to the world being 7-10 thousand years old, just ask any scientist secular or non. You want proof of creation? Go outside and look around and find just ONE thing that got there by accident...and I'm not talking about litter.

Sin is what the Bible calls as "Inherited",from the time Adam & Eve diobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and it was passed down to us to this day! Yes all people are 'sinners',Like the Bible says in the Book of Genesis quoating from the New Translation of the Holy Scriptures,Satan was the one who caused Eve to temp Adam with the fruit ,in which God said you have all this Paradise,it is yours to have ,But do Not Eat from this one Tree, the Tree of Knowledge! And Satan was very active at that time to and to this day!
Genenis Chapter 3:1-24 should help you with the fisrt and second question.People are Born Imperfect ! And all have the Inherited sin with us!
The Bible says :Sin is a Violation of Gods Law: read 1John 3:4;5;17 Romans 4:12 & 2:2-15 also Psalms 103:8, 10, 14,17 Galations 3:18 1john 3:8 Romans 5:12-18 Genesis 2:17 &18 Matthew 12:32 Hebrews6:4-8 it will explain "SIN" !
God is Love and Forgives us of our daily Sins! We must ask in order to recieve his Blessings.
My Source is from the "New Translation of the Holy Scriptures",it is a Bible I use daily and it is put in a form that makes studing the Word of God easier to read and understand.I am imperfect and as we all are,but I truely believe god judges us each as individuals and not as a whole. We are forgiven of our sins ,that is why there is death, that is the ultmate wages of sin,but God Loves You and he is a Forgiving God! I hope this was some comfort and help to you.

I'm Wiccan...
1. A sin for me is disrespecting nature and the powers that be and not appreciating my life.
2. Yes and no.... a sinner is defined by their religious beliefs and conflicts. No two are the same.
3. Situationally based. Sometimes a "sin" is required to combat evil and wrong things.
4. For witches, the Goddess doesn't give the penalty, Karma and the three fold law does.
5. Yes.... Karma again.

Hi all, I don't want to hijack this thread but I saw some intersting comments that I wanted to reply to. the first is about dinosaurs and how old is the earth. first we need to remember that written history only goes back to about 5,200 years ago. There is no proof of anything older than that.
Some people try to rely on carbon 14 dating, the problem is, if you are using carbon 14 dating, you have to assume that the carbon reservoir remained constant all the way back through history. This cannot be proven. Their conclusion will be a guess at best.
Carbon 14 dating is very accurate up to about 13,000 years. After that it varies, and it varies wildly.

I was at a musem a while back and there was a display of dinosaur bones. The sign said the bones were between 60,000 and 100,000 years old. That's a margin of 40,000 years for mistake. That is not science my friend, that's guess work.

Good luck with that study group they can be very instresting!

1. Separation from the will of God.
2. Yes.
3. We are born into sin.
4. The wages of sin is death.
5. Yes. When a person continues to sin, they erode their lives and spirit. "What profit a man to gain the whole world and leave his soul?" There is no true joy outside the will of the one true God. There is a hole inside us that nothing can fill except the great I Am.

1. Anything that goes against God's teaching
2. All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God, yes all people are sinners.
3. We are born pure, but become sinners, because that is just the way we are...refer to #2.
4. The wages of sin is death, but through him you can have eteranal life.
5. I think there are, but only if you are a Christian. I believe the non-christians don't get punished because they are not God's children. We are his children, and like a parent, he punishes us when we do wrong.
