I should hope that you family is understanding enough!
Well, some books will always do. They may be subjects that they like, or coffeetable things like painting or art books. Then you can get tin cans of cookies. I wouldn't think that they are that expensive. Coffee mugs and neat little pillows for sofas...
I must be in the laid back mind.

Our family is big, so the adults just draw names and we get gifts for all of the children. I like to shop at places like T J Maxx or other discount stores. The Friday after Thanksgiving (Black Friday), most stores have HUGE sales like Wal Mart, but it will be extremely busy and you will have to fight a big crowd. Check out E Bay since they have new items on sell to.
Remember that it's the thought that counts. If you are creative, maybe you can make personalized gifts for people. Most kids just like toys. For the adults, I like to give picture frames, picture albums and wine. You could also have family portraits done and send them out as gifts. Sometimes you can find nice picture frames even at the dollar store.
Good luck. I'm sure that your family will understand that you can't spend tons of money on them all.

I am in the same situation. I have a daughter so most of my gifts will be pictures of her. I try to get them all something small I know they will like. Something they collect or I know they will use. Then get a little snack or box of chocolates to go with it. A nice travel or coffee mug filled with their favourite candy. Its small, but takes some thought. For the ladies get some really nice bubble bath, and wrap it up in a basket from the dollar store, clear wrap and lots of curly ribbon. The presentation is really pretty, but doesn't cost a lot.

Get lottery tickets and put them in a card. Of course your family will understand, they have been there themselves I'm sure at one time or another! Make candy or cookies or little loaves of bread to give out. Shop at the dollar stores. I've gotten real cute picture frames for gifts there. Be creative and you'll do fine!

It's the thought that counts.
Try making something for everyone....handmade soaps, candies, candles. You can get the supplies cheaply...and on sale at this time of year. Watch the sales fliers in the Sunday papers for deals.....you can find them if you keep an eye out. Research prices online....at froogle.com. Get the best deals there. Craft shows are also good places to find some nice things, inexpensively.

we've all been there, trust me, everyone understands.
A few cheap ideas:
*Pictures: buy cute frames at the dollar store, everyone loves pictures.
* Buy cheap little ornaments for everyone, some places even peronalize them (write peoples names on them ) for free. We did this for stocking stuffers last year and it was only $ 40 for 8.
* You can make you're own ornaments. (with pictures in them even)
* If you have a signature dessert/dish, you could make it and put it in cute little festive bags. (even if it's not signature cookies are always welcomed!)
Hope those suggestions help. :)

99 Cents Only Store. One year I was broke and everyone knew it, but I got them some fun gifts.
Sister- some cute earrings 99cents.
Brother- a hardcover book on politics ($24 value) 99cents
baby - coloring books / crayons $1.98
older niece- "spa" body products $1.98
mom- a paintbrush 99cents and I painted her bathroom
Friends- small ornaments and candy 99cents each.
I spent no more than $20 that year (I was broke!) but it was fun. What's funny is, that was my favorite gift-giving year because it wasn't about the money, it was about the spirit.

i am not sure if you have these stores in your area but i am sure you have something like them.....Dollar General, Family Dollar, Big Lots, Odd Lots, etc.....you can find really nice things if you just look....they don't need to know that they only cost a few dollars, at least they know you love them enough to get them something!!! It isn't the price that matters, it is the love and thought behind them!!!!
