Caging is not cruel at all! If you get a cage big enough for your dog to grow into, be able to stand up and turn around completely, and lay down and spread out a bit, it's perfectly fine! We had a full sized collie...a big over-sized actually...who left messes when we left the house. Our vet recommended keeping her in a crate while we were out. She did great in it...left a mess the first couple times in her cage, but after that she was fine. She actually went in there voluntarily on several occasions. Dogs can actually feel safer in a crate than just wandering around in the house. You can leave a blanket or something in there too if you want to add some comfort. Don't worry- it's not taken as a punishment to your dog, and as long as you don't start using the cage as punishment, she'll probably be very comfortable with it.

yes caging is cruel. The Americans do it along with cutting off kittens toes, chopping dogs ears and the like. The very thought of keeping dogs in cages all day long because it is convenient to do so is abhorrant. You should not be leaving a puppy alone for extended periods in any case and if she is only left for an hour or so, she can be left in one room with bedding, toys, food and water and she should be fine. The time she will start to chew is around 4 months when she is teething. I find it very useful at this time to get a couple of good big beef bones from your butcher and put them in the freezer. Give her one a day and it will help sooth sore gums and encourage her to chew and gnaw and loosen the puppy teeth.
It IS cruel to leave dogs all alone for hours on end. Why do you think that rescue centres will not rehome to people who work all day?

I highly recommend crate training. I adopted a 9 month old Golden Retriever about a year ago now and asked every breeder and dog expert I came across about crate training. 9 out of 10 highly recommended it. Just keep in mind that puppies can't hold their bladder to much longer than 4 hours or so. Best of luck and congrats on the new puppy!!!

Hi!
No!!! Caging is NOT cruel! It is essential!
We have two dogs who have been caged from the word go.
The cage gives them a safe refuge during the night and while we are out.
When we are in, the dogs aren't caged. However, when the hustle and bustle of family life gets too much for them they put themselves in the cage!
Just make sure the bottom of the cage is well insulated (we use newspapers and cardboard) and that there are squashy comfy cushions or pads in there for her to lie on. She'll love it!
Hope this helps!!
Best of luck!

no caging is not cruel, your puppy will love it when you go away, cause it will give him the sense of security being in his cage when you are not around, also put a favorite toys in his cage for the extra comfort....and yes some puppy's will get upset and destroy and chew things up,it there left alone without being put in a kennel ( I like that word much better than cage),it's there way of getting back at there owner for leaving them and they also do that because of boredom

get a dog crate and encourage him to sleep in there during the times you are in with the door open, then when you go out, give him a Kong ball filled with goodies for him to play with, or a safe chew toy and put him in it. It is like play pen for pups! But never punish him by locking him in there -it is his canine safe haven. You can cover it with dark blankets and give him water and toys -make it real nice for him. And don't be too long - as he will not want to wee in his crate! Look up crate training on google
good luck and have fun

no caging is not cruel its ur babysitter. Not their permanant place... Give her toys and treats and leave her in there it will teach housebreaking also because they dont like to go where they lay. She may have a few accidents but she will stop.trust me. do it and have a happy dog and a nice house. Dont do it and have a Torn up peed in house that will stink and make u resent ur dog. :)
