My father filed for bankruptsy last year. He doesnt want his parents to find out because he doesnt want to loose out on his inheritence. Should someone tell my grandparents so they can plan accordingly. My father would blow any money that he gets from them.

Tell them. They should know. Especially if your father is going to blow it anyways.

I think someone should tell them. My brother filed for bankruptcy because he is the same way with money. He blows it all on cigarettes and alcohol. My parents figured out a way to keep supporting him emotionally, while not monetarily, which helped him get on his feet. Blowing money is more of an emotional problem than a character flaw. He can let them know he needs help and they will still probably be willing to keep him in the will if he promises to get help and gives them progress reports.

Thats a tough one because he is your father but I would hate for your grandparents to waste their money on him either because of his negligence with it. Is your grandparents dying or something? Is the inheritance based on how good he is with the money that he currently has? Thats strange, but in any event, I hope you do what your mind tells you to do, not your heart (it cant think).. good luck..

yes, because maybe they can go about it in a more precautious way, like disperse a certain amount to him each year so that if he blows it there will still be money coming for years to come. Or maybe they can give him some money and then put the rest in a trust for you guys (his children).

It's right to tell them as long as you're not telling them just to hurt your father. Sounds like you have some major unresolved issues with your father!
