I think I'm going to be sick. It's not downplayed? Do these people even watch the news??????????????????? It most certainly is downplayed by the Church AND it's members! I know, cause I work with Catholics and all of them say "Yeah, well, they did catch one......" One out of how many who are doing this? And, like you said, just how many have they covered up??????
And I would really like to know, 20wks, how oxy is a hypocrite??? Geez woman pull your head outta your rear! There's nothing hypocritical here except you trying to pass off the hypocricy onto someone else.
Arrest those who hide pedophiles as if they committed the crime themselves. And tax the hell outta the Church. Then we'll see if they have the money to move these priests around.

the fact that everyone is focused on thecatholic church is nothing but a red herring brought forth by other pedophiles. You know, focus on the priests who aren't nmarried anddon't have kids of their own, while they true criminals go about their evil business of molesting thechildren i their care. There are just as many pedophiles in any other religious group, including among the people who continue th harrassment of the catholic church. I think you will find the rate of adult/child incest is greater in the fundamentalist religions than the catholic, yet these people seem to be normal because they are "married and have normal relationships" A few years back, the small town where I used to live discovered that both the married Pentecostal and Anglican ministers were molesting the children in their charge, but the Catholic Priest was not. It happens everywhere, not just the catholic church. There is an old quote that goes "Methinks the lady doth protest too much" it goes for this too, those who blame others so loudly should be looked at as well. because they are indeed covering up something.

First, the position have you ever heard such information? From the media. did you recognize the media is adverse to Catholics. The media relies upon upon sex, violence, lie, etc. to make their funds and the Catholic Church is adverse to all that. second, look on the numbers. If a instructor molests a scholar, do you're saying "Why do childrens flow to school". that is a few circumstances that are blown extraordinarily out of percentage. Thirdly, no matter if a majority (over 50%) of monks (the authentic decision is about 0.04%) molest childrens, i might want to nonetheless be a Catholic. The Catholic Church does not tell monks to molest little ones. those monks are performing in my opinion. The Catholic Church has CONDEMNED what they have done and reported that they have got SINNED and are incorrect. I have 1000's of thousands of different clarification why I keep on with the Catholic Church: It replaced into the first, closest to God, makes the most experience, has had the most apparitions that were shown authentic, etc.

The most realistic estimate made about pedo priests said it's 4%, or one out of every 25.
Pedophilia is not a "gay" crime, despite what the bigots say. Rather, it is a crime of power committed by people who cannot handle healthy adult relationships, so says the American Psychological Association (www.apa.org). But hey, do a bunch of doctors and scientists really know more than a pope about the cause of pedophilia?
The celibacy rule is the real cause of the problem. It is not a "gift from god". In fact, it was a rule enacted in the thirteenth century because of the number of concubines (sex harems), the greed, and nepotism practiced by priests, bishops and cardinals. It served a purpose back then, but all it does now is bring in the gays who are running from their sexual preference and the weirdos who can't deal with women.
Oh, and let's not forget the idiotic rule about "women can't be priests". If you want to stop pedophilia, turn all the nuns into priests and throw out the men. The APA found that 99% of pedophiles are men, and 1% are women.

As a devout Catholic, I would be the first to admit that there are pdophiles in the priesthood - before the news got hold of it, I understood that there would be. Why? Because they are a segment of society, just like teachers, police officers, protestant ministers, Jewish Rabbi's.
No one is trying to down play that fact, but what many people do not understand is that the news media will focus on it, unlike other segments of society, because the Catholic Church is perceved to be very rich and there is money to be made.
Fact is, less than 5% of pedophiles reported are Catholic priests, in fact the largest majority of pedophiles are a close family member of the child being molested (nearly 60% are family members, with the childs father or step-father being the molestor 30% of the time).
Is that to many? Damn right it is. One person molesting a child is one to many.
So it isn't a "Catholic" issue or problem, it is one of society.

the Roman Catholic church, like all churches, is man made. Any thing man made is bound to fail. When Jesus walked the earth the ONLY church he introduced was "the Church of God" ( not any denomination). Man has made denominations and they all have their own constitutions, cover ups, etc. The Catholic church in 1994 was the second richest organization in Canada (2nd to GM) and in order to keep these funds coming in and our governments continuing to pay for their religious schools (but not schools of other religious groups) they MUST down play/cover up their crimes.
You sound bitter so let me add: Any God fearing priest, minister or person is "RESPONSIBLE" to uncover crime and expose it as well as demand restitution/payment for it. We are not above the law, but neither is the law above God's law. Therefore, all sin (crime) expecially sex crimes are to be brought out, the party removed from ministry, and punished under the laws of the land. That is what God would ordain of the church(es). Whereas this is not happening in the Catholic church, they are NOT "Christian". Christian means "Follower of Christ" and if you do not adhere to Christ's word(s) then you are NOT following him.
Don't be bitter though,my friend -- bitterness breeeds hardened hearts toward God.

Why doesn't anyone ever talk about the fact that most sexual abuse is committed by a relative, the Catholic church is responsible for about the same percentage as teachers, neighbours, close friends of family...generally its the same percentage of people in all society. The Catholic church is just a famous entity in the world, and so, is in the public eye and appears to those who don't do there own research and jsut watch the news, to be the purveyor of all evil.

Leaving your child with Anyone involves certain risks, whether it's the soccer coach, day care, sleepover at the neighbor's, etc. Parents need to be educated and watch out for the signs. I wonder if there are Any of us out there who were not approached inappropriately by somebody before the age of 21 (and mine sure wasn't a Catholic priest!).

The BBC did a hatchet job on the Vatican and the Pope, and anything they say is simply not credible.
Look up the details for yourself.
You can be sure that anyone affected by this scandal will come forward to cash in, not to mention numerous pretenders. There's too much money available for anyone to pass it up.
What is your stake in all of this?

They would cover it up. So would anyone. Should we be accusing the whole population of paedophilia now?
While there may be reason to be suspicious, we draw a fine line between suspicion and paranoia here. "Some priests are paedophilic, so we should be careful" seems reasonable; "All priests are paedophiles until shown otherwise" is perhaps being a little neurotic.
