I live in a one bedroom apt. with my cat. We have lived here for about a year and nine months the cat is the same age. My closet doors are mirrored and my cat is out of control. EVERY morning somewhere between 3 and 5 am Lucifur comes into my room and starts pawing at the mirror. I think she sees another cat and wants to play but it is very loud and EVERY morning I have to get up and lock her out of my room which upsets her so she just paws at my door and meows until I open it. I thought it was just a phase she was going through but I am starting to wonder if this is going to be a forever thing. I value my sleep more than anything and am about to lose it if this keeps continuing. Any suggestions? Remember this is a small apt., I have been thinking about getting another cat to see if company makes her less crazy but am not sure my apt. can handle me and two cats and besides I don't want to eventually end up becoming a crazy cat lady, first it's one, then two, then it's too many.

I've tried covering the mirror but she just rips it down. There is a reason why her name is lucifur. She has been doing this mirror thing from day one. It's not something new she has just started doing

Hi Luci...consider using a window decorating paint (like you see in holiday window displays at the stores). It's not only hard to pull off like a cover, but washable and it will block your kitty's reflection.

Here's the product itself you can buy at any craft store for under $6--Krylon Washable Window Paint: http://www.dickblick.com/zz014/09/

Ahhh the 3am crazy kitty. Mine goes nuts the exact same time everynight (3amish). Cept mine meows like mad crazy and sometimes darts around the house. I would suggest a water spray bottle to keep by your bed and she does it spray her wiht the water. She will eventualy get the idea. Otherwise you could cover the bottom half of your mirror with cloth or something so she doesnt see the reflection. I dont know why cats go nuts at this time of the night..kinda creepy how ours is right on time everynight. I dont think you'd need another cat to fix the problem. Try the spray bottle.

Besides having to get rid of either the cat or the mirrors... you could try taping construction paper or some other covering to the first 2 feet of the mirrors. It would be a cheap fix that won't look sloppy and you can pick the color to match your own style and apartment. Maybe your cat will outgrow it and this will give her time to do that without concentrating on it every moring. "Out of sight, out of mind" Good luck.

We have a cat that drives me crazy. He seems to only make alot of noise at night. The worst one is when he jumps on the living room window ledge to look outside. But we have vertical blinds up so all I hear is rattling. Then when he uses the litter box, he likes to scratch his claws on the wood panel wall and also on the trash can. He basically shreds up the trash bag that sticks out and it makes all kinds of noise. The best thing you can do for the mirror is to put down something in front of it so it's just high enough where that cat can't see anything. That's sure to work. As for my cat, I might have to just put his fat *** in the garage.

I would cover the lower part of the mirror so that the cat can't see it's reflection. Tape a cloth or something over the lower foot or so of the mirror and that should do the trick.

I think the suggestions to tape over the bottom of your mirror are good but I see no problem with adding another kitty to your mix as well. Two cat's in a small apartment is not unusual nor unheard of.

Good luck!

Why don't you shut the kitty out of your room before you go to bed? You may be able to break the kitty's habit this way. After a week or so of no access to the bedroom, try letting the kitty back into the room and see what happens. I broke my kitty of night time pounching this way, and it also worked for my kitty's dangerous habit of playing with the iron's cord. Adding a cat when you are already experiencing problems is a mistake.

I like the window spray paint idea. I used that for Christmas decorations and it stays on until you wet it down to wash it off. You can then decorate your closet mirrors with it too so it doesn't only block the cat's reflection but is a fun design idea to enhance your bedroom.

I sympathesize with your problem. 2 cats in an apartmet will solve your problem, I believe. We have 4 cats total and we don't find it much harder to take care of than 1. The 4 cats have different personalities but they definately keep each other busy. You and your cat will both be happier. Just make sure they are compatible.

This might not be very attractive, but is there anyway that you can cover up the mirror just on the bottom where your cat goes crazy? Maybe if you just have it "gone" for awhile you can try taking the covering off and maybe Lucifer won't be so obsessed with it anymore.

My baby girl Foxxy is the same way! She makes so much noise and knocks everything down, attacks paper towel rolls and mutilates them, she jumps on walls to get spots she thinks are bugs, leaves dirt little foot prints all over the toilet seat and sinks, throws litter out of her box, terrorizes my other cats, growls and meows at stuff, growls out windows when animals walk by, jumps on the table and puts her paw right in your food, drinks out of your cups when no one is looking, ect.
I do "punish" her. I yell "NO" at her, clap my hands loudly, call her name loudly, sometimes I will put her in the bedroom and close the door, I have squirted her with water too.
She goes nuts if my door is locked.
Try a few simple "punishments" but be persistent it takes time to learn new habits.
Good Luck.
