I have two to choose from: a Nikon CPL1 (Coolpix L1) 6.2 megapixel OR a Pentax E10 6 megapixel. I don't know too much about digital cameras other than point and shoot. Which would you say is the better one?

I'd love a Canon, but unfortunately, I only am able to choose from the two cameras that I listed. Thanks anyway.

If you are really choosing between these two, then definately the Nikon. Not because of the Nikon name- but it's got a 5x zoom lens vs. a 3x on the Pentax and a slightly bigger and higher resolution LCD. It's also got a few fun features on it. Definately the better choice, as there are times when you'll really enjoy using the 190mm (35mm effective) telephoto end of the zoom range.

Both are respectable cameras, that would probably satisfy the needs of a point-and-shoot photographer. Neither is adequate for serious photography. I always lean towards the Nikon optics and would therefore recommend the CPL1. You'll probably be happy with either.

Go with the Nikon The Pentax is not well rated. Or I could just go off topic and ignore your question and recommend something else which won't help you.
