Grade level?

You can fill in some of the info and have a list of events for your students to select from to complete the timeline on a worksheet.

Or for a fun activity, make the timelines big and long. I have included a page of graphics instead of written choices. The students cut and paste them accordingly. An example would be at the date of 1492 on the time line they would select the graphic of Columbus or a ship, a pic of the a-bomb and they write the date on the timeline....It makes a nice group activity...especially the day before a holiday. They can also be scored for color and creativity and make it a competition between the class groups .....AND you can display them on your walls!

Use 8-1/2 x 11 construction paper (or colored paper). Tape/staple or glue the paper end-to-end lengthwise to make your timeline. I am assuming you are covering only a 33-year segment of time, representing the physical lifetime of Jesus Christ. You may want to use a different color paper to represent each 5-year segment of time (7 sheets total). When you assemble the paper this way, it's easy to fold and carry. I agree with the person who suggested using artwork(graphics) to symbolize a certain event. For instance, you could make a large star or manger to represent Jesus' birth. Make 3 wisemen to represent the visit by the Magi -- a picture of a temple to represent his visit to the synagogue at age 12, etc. In magic marker, write the date of each event on the timeline paper and then glue the related picture/graphic above it.

Also good is that craft foam with glue on the back -- great for cutting designs or using as your timeline background.

Go down to the library (or maybe it's on-line now) and do some research on early American clothing. There are several eras of clothing that started with the long (ankle length) dresses with poofy hoop skirts in the early 1800s, and it gradually changed to the kind you see on old Westerns, with no hops, and a tailored jacket. then along came the American Dress, where bloomers were discovered (what a scandal) and dresses suddenly became knee length with bloomers beneath, like poofy pants, and the jacket became longer, like a man's long-tailed jacket. Blouses stopped being up to the chin, and started becoming much lower, even seductively revealing for the bosom. (another scandal, oh, dear!)
