Immigration is a positive thing in general especially if done in an ordely and lawful manner. Negative impact happens when laws are being broken or worse, ignored. So, it's not immigration per se that's bad- it's the disregard of the law that is making it bad.
Some famous immigrants:
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Bob Hope
Andy Garcia
Vladimir Nabokov
Madeleine Albright
Henry Kissinger
Albert Einstein
Khalil Gibran
Irving Berlin
and so much more:

Negative:
Immigrants taking jobs from native people - they are more employable if they will work for minimum wage (especially if a skiled British person is entitled to £10 an hour for the same job). As they don't have many of the committments a native Briton has (mortgage council tax etc) they can afford to work for this lower wage, a Briton cannot.
Immigrants taking social housing (council housing) when there is hardly any to go round and British families are homeless.
Increased crime
Immigrants claiming benefits when they have not paid taxes into the system
Large scale immigration swamping native cultures
Postive:
mixing of culture - gives British people the chance to learn more about other culture.
low cost workforce for greedy bosses (only benefits the bosses not the workers)
High skilled immigrants like Doctors etc bring much needed skills
I'm anti-immigration so these are the best I can come up with for positives.

Migration highlights the difference in value that is placed on living in one country as opposed to another..someone who holds for example, a US passport may travel virtually freely around the globe..as passports are not all weighted equally someone from a poorer nation may well be restricted or face tougher scruitiny at their destination..
So when migration is spoken of, it should be remembered that there does NOT seem to be a pre-judice regarding migrants from US, western Europe, new Zealand, Australia etc meaning it may not be migration per-se people object to but migration from certain cultures and nations making it a very questionable stance..
Migration should not be confused with immigration either..migration works on push and pull factors which explain why people are attracted to one country over another..
Migration is not a new phenomenon, it has been ever present in the UK and there are many positives about it.. if migration did not happen (flow of people) then the country would stagnate..so it should be stressed that each of us at one point migrated to this country from Africa..a clever commentor once stated that indeed racism has no place in the UK because all that seperates the so-called us and them is a few thousand ships..
Through migration we have benefited from cultural exchanges..for example Indian/Chinese/Italian cuisine are all by products of migration, so cultural enrichment is one plus.
Labour - migrants (including illegal immigrants, play an important part in the economy doing undesirable low paid menial jobs such as packing the vegetables for supermarkets which would otherwise push up the price of food and make it not cost effective to produce..)
Plus in the UK there is a demographic (population) crisis looming, people are having less children and through better health care and the like people are living longer meaning that in the future, there will be more older people of retirement age than young people. This means that older people may not get a pension and jobs may not be filled meaning a cut back in services possibly. Migration is one way to solve this problem - if migrant workers filled the skills gap then it could alleviate a potentially disastrous outcome.
Another plus of migration is that it can help to break down prejudical barriers if people are integrated together. Segregation rarely works..
Good luck with your talk.

The original thought on immigration is to import man-power to the areas where they are needed. The United States, as the rich country it is, has a deficit in qualified expertise for the different fields of industries and commerce. Some of this are filled with engineers, doctors, accountants, and all kind of well educated people around the world. There are no low wages jobs where immigrants are to be applied, unless an agricultural program opens. Still, there is a demand in jobs for factories and industries as laborers, and again, people around the world wait their turn to be called in, many of them, with a temporary visa.
on the other hand, people are crossing the border illegally, and some with the temporary visa are staying, overpopulating the low wage job industries and making them even lower.

It's not for me to complain that our country is so full of asylem seekers that the schools can't cope, the NHS services are at breaking point, and they still come in at around 500 a day. When will this stupid, no criminal goverment, realise they are destroying our country. I am not talking about those that work in hospitals etc, it's those that come for the free rides they get, the hand outs and houses they walk into. We pay taxes, very high taxes, and they get the freebees, never paying a penny into the system. How far would we get if we went to France or Germany and stood at the dockside and asked for directions to their social security office so we can have some free money. I'm sure I would be told just where to go. I've been to Singapore recently. none of that sort of crap their, if you aint rich don't even think about it.
What do we get Muslims, who not only live off us like leaches but want to take over the country, easy for them with this sick government who bans the union flag and Christmas incase we upset any of them.
Poles, who do work for low wages, that make them seem rich compared to their country. 13.000 in the first year, crap they came in at the rate of 1500 a day.
Whats going to happen when the next bunch of cut throats arrive,
, God help this once great britain of ours.!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I'm not a racist, I'm English, never had any handouts, always worked for everything I have. and if I can't afford it I wait till I can.

legal or illegal? There is a huge difference. We have limits on immigration of poor people because we subsidize education and other benefits for our poor people, yet need those services for our own people. Stretching our funds to cover millions and millions of people who broke the law to come and are too poor ever to make enough money to cover cost of education of their families in taxes, ruins education and services for our own people. We do let some come, unlike some countries who only let in the rich. However, we limit poor immigrants because each one is someone we have to cover the cost for and stretch our services over. Coming illegally is stealing.

What species is migrating? Bird flu puts us at risk with avian migration. I sure don't want to see skunks doing much migration. Killer bees are already a problem. OH, IMMIGRATION!!!! Legal, or illegal? Pro legal, as we have received some many talented people legally. Illegal: Against,as there are too many people who want to to this country harm to not keep track of who is coming in.
