CRUMB-TOPPED APPLE PIE

Naturally, we traditionalists favor Judy's Apple Pie, when it comes to family favorites, but if you are looking for a slightly different apple pie, try this:

N.B. Filling ingredients must be combined and refrigerated overnight or at least three hours in advance!

Filling:

3 lbs. apples such as Cortland, Rome or Macoun, peeled and thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 tsp. grated orange rind
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ginger
1/2 can evaporated milk

Crumb topping:

1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter

To make crumb topping: Combine all topping ingredients, and blend with a fork or pastry blender until texture is even.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Roll out crust, place in pie plate and crimp edges. Spoon filling into crust. Sprinkle crumb topping evenly over filling.

Place pie in a large paper bag. Fold end tightly, and bake 1 hour or until crumb topping is golden brown.

Pumpkin for particularly some reasons. this is seasonal which makes it particular. because of the fact of that it makes it renowned and makes apple look much less unique. regardless of each little thing, apples fortuitously are available year-around. this is a notably spiced recipe this is beautiful and it has a rich style even regardless of the undeniable fact that this is a filling in a stable, candy vegetable way. lol So my answer is Pumpkin. satisfied Thanksgiving to you too !

Speedy Streusel Apple Pie

1 package (15 ounces) refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
1 egg, separated
1/4 cup pecans, chopped
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon, divided
5-6 medium red baking apples, such as Jonathan (about 6 cups)
1 lemon
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons cornstarch
Powdered sugar
Vanilla ice cream or thawed, frozen whipped topping (optional)

1.Preheat oven to 400ºF. Let pie crusts stand at room temperature 15 minutes. Place one pie crust in a deep dish pie plate, gently pressing dough into bottom and up sides. In a bowl, separate egg white from yolk. (Set yolk aside for another use.) Whisk egg white until frothy. Brush egg white over bottom and halfway up sides of crust; set crust aside.
2.For streusel, finely dice remaining crust (it is not necessary to unfold crust); place in a bowl. Chop pecans. Add pecans, 2 tablespoons of the sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of the cinnamon to batter bowl; toss and set mixture aside.
3.For filling, core and slice apples, leaving peel on; cut slices into quarters. Juice lemon to measure 2 teaspoons juice. In large colander bowl, combine apples, lemon juice and vanilla; toss to coat. In small colander bowl, combine cornstarch, remaining sugar and remaining cinnamon; mix well. Add cornstarch mixture to apples; stir to coat evenly. Spoon apple mixture into crust. Sprinkle streusel evenly over apples.
4.Place pie in microwave oven. Microwave on HIGH 8 minutes or until apples are very hot, rotating dish after 4 minutes. Immediately place pie on bottom rack of conventional oven. Bake 18-22 minutes or until topping is deep golden brown. Remove pie from oven to cooling rack; let stand 15 minutes.
5.Sprinkle powdered sugar over pie. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping, if desired.

Streusel Apple Cranberry Pie

Streusel Topping
¼ cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup packed brown sugar
3 Tbsp butter or margarine
½ cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Crust & Filling
½ package (15 oz) refrigerated pie crusts (1 crust)
¾ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup all-purpose flour
¼ tsp salt
1 ¼ tsp Pantry Cinnamon Plus spice blend
1 cup dried cranberries
2 tsp orange zest
7-8 baking apples, such as Jonathan (about 2 ½ lbs)

1.Preheat oven to 350°F. For Streusel Topping, combine flour and brown sugar in classic batter bowl. Cut in butter using pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Stir in walnuts and set aside.
2.For crust and fruit filling, let pie crust stand at room temperature for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, combine sugar, flour, spice blend and salt in small batter bowl. Add cranberries and orange zest, mix well and set aside.
3.Core and slice apples using Apple Peeler/Corer/Slicer. Cut apples in half to make about 8 cups of slices. Toss apples with sugar mixture in large stainless mixing bowl until evenly coated; set aside.
4.Gently unfold crust onto lightly floured surface. Roll crust to 11 ½ inch circle using lightly floured Baker’s Roller. Place crust into bottom and up sides of Deep Dish Pie Plate forming a loose ruffle even with the edges of the pie plate. Spoon apple mixture into crust. Sprinkle evenly with streusel topping. To prevent over browning of pastry edges, use crust shield.
5.Bake 50-55 minutes or until apples are tender and streusel topping is golden brown. Cool at least 2 hours before serving. Cut into wedges.
