My view is several repeat their postings which would suggest that they are trying to get a reaction out of us the users. If they are serious about wanting help, they will get it from professionals and those that want to become anorexic are young and don't understand that you can not just become anorexic, lose weight and stop when you want to. Out of the couple anorexics I knew they hid the fact not post in the web for everyone to see. Beside we can tell a true anorexics what they should do but they wont listen, if they had the mind to control their disease they would not be anorexic

I don't think it's easy to slip into anorexia. I have plenty of registered nurses in my family, and although nurses do see PLENTY of stupid people and things happen in the ER and such, I still don't think anorexia is something you can easily fall into. I'd love to lose about 10 more pounds, but I could never go a day without eating, let alone weeks and months. I think people should spend less time worrying about their weight, unless they're dangerously overweight, and spend more time enjoying who they are. I think it's jus stupid how obsessed people are with being thin, and with celebrities.

It's sad. Maybe their parents raised them to think they are fat. I have a grandmother that constantly comments on my weight, actually when I was 15 and hit 110, she said that I should not gain another pound. Now, I weigh 170, in a size 12, and only want to lose a little weight because I'm only 5' and I want to have more energy and fit into my 10's and not have to buy new clothes. I eat healthy and exercise. Maybe kids need to be taught how it works instead of the EXTREME ways of doing things. They need to make it a lifestyle instead of a diet. TOO MANY FRIKIN DIETS!!!

If you are a registered nurse, then you know the fascination that little girls and some women(and men) have with the lives of the celebrities. I just wish that those celebrities would get up and talk about their problems with weight and other life issues instead of pretending everything is perfect. Like how Jennifer Aniston is unable to conceive because she was so thin for so long.

I think that the desire of many people to be so thin and "beautiful" is simply a snapshot of what our society is like today.
People today are so obssessed with having everything about themselves perfect: perfect clothes, perfect hair, perfect house, perfect car, perfect BODY.
MAny, especially teenage girls, as you said, don't know the dangers of anorexia, or even malnutrition, that can occur with such obsessive behavior. They will deprive their body of necessary nutrients just to stay thin, often they will just eat little snacks to tide themselves over, which are usually not healthy snacks anyway!
Our society has created for young girls an image of a flawless Barbie-doll girl with no tummy and firm, sexy legs and butt. They believe that that is the ultimate look and they will do anything they can to achieve it, even if they must hurt their health for it.
I believe that some are aware of the danger. They just don't care. THey want to be appealing. Therein lies another root of this problem: everything in our world today is focused on sex. They see being sexy as the only calling for a teenage girl. They feel they won't fit in if they don't have a guy, and they believe that they must be perfectly thin in order to do so! (that's just a side note)
Hollywood has told our generation, "Skinny is In" and our girls are responding. Sadly, many of them will suffer preventable infirmities for it, too.

Maybe it is because we are in such a "fast" society (fast food, ready wear, quick service...etc..) This has been on going for decades...'we' all want instant gratification.
I think the "stupid little girls" as you said are looking for quick fixes.
It seems there is pressure felt by younger and younger girls to be skinny and maybe their intellect hasn't caught up with their desire to 'fit' in with what they perceive as the "norm"
This isn't nice to say, but maybe some mothers are giving their daughters the impression that 'you' can be happier being skinny. Even though happiness is found in so many other things and doesn't stem from one's weight.
Just a few thoughts.

It doesn't have anything to do with the girls but the pressures society puts on them to look a certain way. People like Lindsey Lohan, Victoria Beckham and Nicole Richie are always in the public eye and if a young girl sees how people who are so thin are being idolized, it only makes them turn around and think that they are not right for fitting that same image.
Don't be calling them stupid, try and help them...that is your job.

my views are that some of the girls are more concerned about their weight and they do not know about the danger in eating disorders instead they would have to find out the hard way and suffer the consequences. Anarexia and bulimia is very easy to slip into.

Relax and hold your horses lady. The last time I looked there are a lot more fat women out there than skinny ones. America is the most obese country in the world. This includes our women.
So I'll have a bacon wrapped filet and bring the little lady a rice cake.

In my opinion, health isnt' emphasised enough in today's society nd in its place, there is a terrible obsession with weight loss. People don't realize that sometimes you don't need to lose weight and i'm not sure where this unhealthy obsession stems from. I think that at least one nutrition course should be mandatory in high school and that there should be more courses like that available throughout our education.
