The theoretical you should return the candlestick to the minister, apologize, and discuss with him what prompted you to take it. Ask him for help.
I strongly believe what goes around, comes around. Everyone at some point is in a circumstance where theft of something is very easy... and often, it's at a time when having/selling the object would help us in some way. BUT, aside from the fact that stealing is wrong, there's also the thing that sooner or later you yourself will lose, or have stolen, something of value to YOU. Also, doing something like this can eat away at your conscience for your whole life. IMO, the only time theft is permissible is when there's no other recourse for survival... like the hurricane survivors of Katrina taking food and uncontaminated water from the grocery stores, so they wouldn't die. No other aid or resource was available to them, so it was take the food or starve.
Give it back, and not just "slip it back"---take it to the minister, apologize, ask his forgiveness, and ask for his help. You'll be a much happier person if you do. :)
PS---You and your minister might find it interesting that I'm Pagan, not Christian, btw. Pagans can have morals and ethics, too. :D

Give it back to the church and confess, they will forgive you and you won't feel guilty anymore. If you don't you will never forget what you did.
When I was a kid I had $50 and I was debating on whether to put it in the basket for the church (I am catholic) or not. I kept the money. To this day I feel guilty and I feel greedy because of it. Just that one little thing still makes me feel horrible.

Go to Pastor Jones, and tell him what you did, and ask forgiveness, he will not hesitate to reach out to you in The Love of Jesus Christ. Returning the Candle Stick with the apology, of course. If you pawned it, reimburse to him what you got. You will be amazed how liberating that is. I know, cuz I've been there.

YOU STOLE THE CANDLE!!!! The first thing you need to do is quit lying to us. Obviously you have a problem lying and stealing. Take the candle back and ask GOD to forgive you. The Rev can't forgive you, it must be GOD!!! Now, go take the candle back to the church and quit lying!!!!!

You should keep it (cause you really didn't steal it) and you should sell it for 1 million dollars on ebay (cause this is theoretically speaking of course so its worth a million) and you should sent me half of the money because I gave you the idea. Thanks, I'll be waiting for it, theoretically speaking.

Theoretically speaking...of course...I'd try to sneak it back in and see if you can appease your guilt by returning it unknown...if you had actually taken said candlestick...as one never knows how men of the cloth will react to such deviances.

The candlestick does not belong to the Reverend, but to God. Return the candlestick and ask God for forgiveness, which he will not withhold. I would suggest telling the Reverend about your repentance and asking for advice, but that is up to you.

"Reverend" whoever can't forgive you. No man can. Only Jesus Christ can forgive any sin, and He will forgive any sin, no matter how big or small, if you confess it to Him in prayer, and believe that He died on the cross to pay for it, and rose again.
