my kitty is coming home today from surgery, and he's not going to be aloud to jump for awhile...and since our bed is up high id like to get him a small inexpensive cat bed to put on the floor, can anyone recommend one? (known places please, petco, petsmart, walmart, etc)

Your cat might enjoy a shallow box or basket lined with a soft baby blanket if you don't want to buy a bed. I do think they like the idea of something with sides. It gives a sense of security. I bought a nice, roomy oval-shaped bed at Wal-Mart, and seems like it was around $15.00. It has soft sides made of corduroy, and the interior is a fleecy fabric - kind of a synthetic lamb's wool. The cats like it.
You should check out the website for Drs. Foster and Smith. They have some really neat pet supplies, and many times, they're on sale or clearance. Sale prices aren't too bad, but of course, the shipping and handling is added to it.
They currently have on sale a cat bed that is self-warming - has some kind of thermal interior that retains warmth from the body heat of the pet. It's $15.00 for select colors. I had one shipped to my sister's old, arthritic cat, and my sister said it's great and stays and warm and cozy as a heating pad.
Take good care of your little furry patient, and hope he feels better.

It's hard to keep cats from jumping up - even when they're not supposed to. When my cat had surgery, we put her in a small dog cage so she wouldn't have anywhere to go and hurt herself. You could also try putting him in the bathroom - or a small room where he can't get too far and doesn't have much to jump on. Cat beds aren't too expensive at walmart... probably $10 - $20. Or you could put some old towels in a box... cat's aren't picky about stuff like that. Or will "reject" your attempts to give him a nice bed. Oh, also, he could sleep in his carrier....

Since he's accustomed to sleeping on your bed, why not put a milk crate or something "step like" for him to climb on the bed?" This is what we did for our cat. You can get nice kitty beds for about 20 bucks at Wal-Mart or Target. I've purchased there before.

I recommend you line a cardboard box with a blanket from your bed and maybe an old sweater. Since your kitty is used to sleeping with you, he might reject the new bed and still try to sleep with you. If he has a palce that is comfy and smells of you, he is more likely to use it because he'll feel safe. It's also good for your pocketbook :)

There are many good beds for cats on the market.
My cats love to sleep in my blue jeans after I take them off, they like me to open them up so their body can fit inside, so for my favorite cat, I got a box, an old pair of jeans and put them in the box and opened them up and folded them over the box and she just loves it better than a store bought bed.

I found a great one at Wal-Mart of all places. It's very soft, round, and green (that's all I can tell you about it without looking at it). I think it cost under $15.00 and my kitty's all love it. I had to use it for the same reason after my kitty came home from surgery.
Good Luck

I would keep him in a crate, that way you don't have to worry about him running around and jumping up. If he's used to being on your bed, he's going to think he can still get up there. Animals don't understand they need to take it easy after surgery.
