Alive, once you are dead, you don't acknowledge anything. Alive you must feel and witness everything that is going on around you.
THAT is scary

I think the biggest fear by far is death because it is unknown, although you make a valid point, most people are indeed afraid of living as well.
There would be A LOT less religion in the world, in general, if death was not such a scary, unknown thing. Most, if not all, religions seem to be based on explaining, in some way, what happens when we die.
I have thought about it a bit, and frankly the idea of death is a bit scary to me. I think this is because I have gotten used to being ALIVE and the phase change that wold inevitably occur with death is a bit unsettling and I wonder if there is any consciousness attached to it. (I think I watch too much Ghost Hunters LOL).
Of course, my theory is that IF there were really something to worry about, by now we would know it, and based on a whole lot more than a few scary bedtime stories and silly myths engineered solely to make people feel better about themselves and their place in the world.

Being dead -- I've spent time with the whole non-existence thing and it scares the heck out of me. I have, however, had some perception changes where I realize that this thing I am is completely dependent on the universe itself (air, food, water, gravity, sun, etc.). I then think about the mystery of existence and how, in some way, we've always been -- given that whatever always existed (process, potential, etc.) included the mechanisms that resulted in everything. I'm also helped by some minor spiritual experiences that I've had and some zen stuff I've done.

Being alive is beautiful, most of the time. Being dead is just not being at all. I'd rather be alive. "There is a life before death".

well it all depend on who you are, if you are are christian and believe that Jesus died on the cross to save you from you sins
and believe that he is you Lord and Saviour
then dieing is not scary at all. because then you know that you are going home. But if you do not believe yes then it would be scarier to die
May god bless you and have a great day

I dont really think about being either.
Not because it is scary.
I am alive, and I breathe. I don't need to be concious of every breath. I do appreciate my life though.
Death, I dont worry about it. Hope it doesnt happen soon so I can see my daughter grow up, but when it happens there is not much I can do about it.

It's scarier to think about when I was dead while I was alive.
In other words before I was saved.
