you could get him a play mate or a toy called a kong....it is a red cone shaped toy with a hole in it to put things like peanut butter, ice, or treats.....it keeps dogs pretty busy and the toy is supposed to be indestructable!!!

you could leave a tv or radio on for the lonliness....it kind of makes them feel that someone is there with them if they hear talking and stuff!!!

You may want to consider asking a friend, family member or neighbor who lives close by if they might consider visiting your dog around mid-day for a quick potty break, a short walk or some play time. Even 20 minutes of activity in the middle of the day can do a lot for a dog to quell boredom and decrease the likelihood of acting out or destructive or neurotic behaviors.

And although it is an additional expense, there are many services that offer dog-sitting mid-day visits.

I recomend a pug. They pretty much just lay around all day so leaving them alone is fine. But when you get home theyre happy as can be to see you and theyll play with you. If you keep them on a healthy diet they should stay about 20 pounds but they seem to pack on the weight easily. But if your walking them daily you should be good. Make sure they have a good bloodline with no skin problems and you should be good. Plus theyre really wrinkly and cuddly, and they aren't usually yappy

Another dog for comapny and a playmate is a great idea. I think a dog needs one furry friend at home. I keep the tv on Animal Planet. Just have a few toys for her to play with.

Consider the extra responsibility of another dog. Also consider the fact that your dog may not get along with a new memeber of the family.

Try doggie daycare. Most vets offer one. There you dog can socialize and play with other babies in a safe, supervised environment.

i agree.get him a game.toys,KONG are great, they last a super long time and you can put anything in them.our dogs are fans of the KONG gel,its liver flavored and you spray it inside.they love it!
another option is to make sure your dog can watch stuff out the window,or get a fish tank where you dog can see it but cant knock it over.

There are some cities which have a doggie day care. You may want to enroll in that.
