My son pierced his lip in two areas himself. (snake bites) He didn't want us to find out so he was taking the piercing in and out for a period of weeks. Now he took them out because he is in pain. He is having difficulty eating because it hurts. The inside of his mouth he has white blisters where the holes were made. Viewing his lip from the outside it seems as if there is raised lumps around the area of entry. Do you think he is at risk for infection?

yes it sounds like an infection- I have a piercing and mine got infected but I called an ask a nurse line and they told me not to take the piercing out because you can trap the infection inside. I was told to clean the area with antibacterial soap and move the piercing frequently until I was able to see a doctor- he may need an antibiotic. maybe the tools he used on his own were not sterile.. should seek medical attention. just a suggestion. :) good luck

Sounds like he is infected and needs antibiotics. The infection can spread and become dangerous. I would definately get him to the doctor and encourage the doctor to lecture him. Sometimes hearing the gruesome details from someone other than parents is enough to get them to thing twice before they do the next stupid thing.

And somone mentioned other piercings..thats a definate possibility. I hope he learns a lesson from this before he has to have chunks of dead tissue removed.

There is always a risk of infection with piercings. He should get to the doctor NOW.

He definately needs to see a doc. Call and get him in to see the doc today and get this checked out. Depending on how you feel about piercings I would assure him that next time he wants to have a piercing or do something to his body it would be better to talk to you first so that it can be done by someone who knows what they are doing. Good luck.

He is definitely at risk of infection especially if he did not use sterile tools. He should see a doctor as soon as possible to get an antibiotic before this worsens.

Absolutely! INfection infection infection!!! See a doctor, maybe just a quick visit to your family practitioner. A good dose of antibiotics and Lysterine should take care of it. But do something TODAY, before it causes permanent scaring and he won't be able to put his piercings back in, ever. (If he takes care of it now, he can put them back in... IF THEY ARE STAINLESS STEEL AND SANITIZED.)

See a doctor. You don't need to mess with this and risk serious complications.

Expect eyerolls from any thinking practitioner, I'm sure you're getting many of them right now from your readers.

Good luck!

that is infection due to the hygienic of the needle he uses to pierce his lips. did he clean the needle with alcohol before he uses it? you have to bring him to the doctor to clean the infected area as soon as possible. good luck to you and your son. he'll be ok.

Yes you should take your son to the doctor, because he hasn't told mom about his pierced penis yet.
