We are not allowed to install any software or programs onto our computers here at work that are not work related, but can you install a program onto a flash drive and run it from there? If you do, can you move it from computer to computer?

If so, how would I go about doing it?

The program I am wanting to install is something like Microsoft Picture! It or something similar. If that one is too big,. can anyone suggest a small photo editor that allows you to resize proportionally, crop, and get rid of red-eye? And don't say Paint. I hate that one.

Thanks!!!

Yes you can install a program to a flash drive. Just run the installer, and when it asks where you want to install the program, just point it to your flash drive. If the program requires a registry edit, you can access that by going into the start menu, picking "Run" and typing "regedit". Just paste the program's data from your own computer into the registry of your work computer and you'll be able to run it anytime from your flash drive.

The best program would be Adobe Photoshop. It's not really small, so you'll need a decent-sized flash drive, but you can get 2 or 4 GB flash drives for under $100 nowadays so it shouldn't be a problem.

it's possible to download a picture program to a flash drive depending on the size of the program verses the size of the flash drive you use. FOR INSTANCE, IS THE FLASH DRIVE 512 MB ? This is a big size flash drive and should handle almost any program you want to download to it. Also I'm sure a 256 mb flash drive should handle your photo program also. Adobe has a beginners photo program you can download for free that isn't very large. you can find it at http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/family.html. I hope this help's. Mikie.

You're going to have to find a small program on download.com. Anything MS will require .dll files. The links to .dll is all done in the Win Registry, which is strictly off-limits, I'm sure. Running from your pen / flash drive shouldn't be a problem if you can find a 3rd party photo program.

No u cant b/c each program has its own number at the registry... this is so to prevent illegal copy of programs. Also flash drive is only a storage device... meaning it wont load the program from there unless is a program that requires no registry info.

Use photoshop for your image needs.

Yes, you can. Just download to your flash drive and save it to a computer that you want it run. I would recommend you copy the file to the computer and run from there so that the file is still in the flash drive.
