go to aveda salon, and ask them to mix a custom conditioner for you. they'll add extra red into it then the normal red conditioner. everytime you condition your hair it will add red pigment. its a deep conditioner, and while the instructions say to use it something like once a week, i used it 2-3 times. i dyed my hair bright red and the red lasted 6 months before fading.

also make sure you're using a daily shampoo and conditioner for colour treated hair.

Are you sure you are buying the permanent hair dye? Also, try not to wash your hair every day if you can help it...try every other day. You can always use the colorfast condtioner for redheads. It works too. I dye my hair red regularly also and I have very long hair to my bum, so I usually use 2-3 boxes. I also leave the dye in for about 10 minutes past the recommended time to make it a bit darker. I don't have much problem keeping the color. I re-dye about every 4-6 months.

Red really fades fast, even if you use expensive dye. Using a shampoo/conditioner for dyed red hair helps. Also try washing your your evry other day or every third day instead of every day. To perk it up between dyes, there are rinses for red hair.

Dont wash it everyday. they sell shampoo for red hair to keep the color. Try a wash in dye every other week to hold the permanent dye

I know a few people who dyed therir hair red and their color last pretty long because they have John Frida Color Glazes . You could also use Pantene Pro-V. I would also suggest that if you use a strightener or curling iron or hair dyer to put it on the lowest setting possible. Good Luck! Also to make your red hair POP that you get light blonde highlights.

Getting semi-permanent hair dye won't damage your hair really.. Bleaching it out will, But everyone thinks if you color your hair, You hair is damaged. And yeah get it done again.

i had my hair dyed red before. i found that if i used a shampoo for color treated hair, the dye looked like it was all washing out. especially with herbal essences and almost anything w/ citrus..... other than garnier fructis. you'd prolly be better with that pantene stuff for redheads.
