When you get your own insurance you can pick any doctor that is in your network. If you pick a plan that is an HMO then you have to pick one PCP (primary care physician). If you are happy with your family doctor find out what plans he/she participates in and then it all depends what insurance your job offers to see if they have a plan that he/she participates in.

the doctor that you choose has to have the type of insurance that you have. Usually you'll get a book that tells what doctors in your area takes the type of insurance that you have. If it's a good insurance, then most doctors should take it

It depends on two things: 1. Does the doctor take your new insurance? and 2. Are you happy with them?

If the answer to both is yes, there's no reason to change. If the answer to either is no, then feel free to change.
