Hell is what we make of our own lives, it is not a place were the big bad boogie man lives as many Christians will tell you. Why would a god punish someone for eternity for a sin that doesnt last for an eternity.

I am trying to figure out where the concept of hell came from. In the bible it says dark pit, but not actually hell as a place. Think about it, heaven is where God is so I guess hell would be anywhere that God isn't. That would be in our existance now as well. To me hell would be a place far away from God, where I wouldn't be able to commune with him.

The bottom line is not religious belief but simple belief. If you don't believe that God exists then it wouldn't matter if there were a heaven or a hell which would depend upon where God is.

I don't know, why do my religious beliefs tell me that I do not have to fear a place called hell?

(PS - All Christians and religious people do not believe exactly the same).

Belief in hell is related to believing that their is a god and a devil and each of them has a special place that they have dominion. God is the ruler of heaven and Satan is the one in charge of hell.

If however, you do not believe in a organized christian religion the idea of heaven and hell will not exist for you, so that would be why your non religious beliefs would tell you not to fear hell.

Enjoy your day. :)

Hello!
I do not believe in hell. I am religious and live by Gods word but every time I think of hell a quote from the Bible comes into my head "God Is Love". If God is love why would be sent someone to burn?

No, hell is something man used to scare people to going to church.

No church for me. People sit in a building on Sunday morning a preach the "word of God" while they could be serving soup at a shelter or doing something to help.

They preach the 10 Commandments then go and vote for someone that sends our young people to war (Thou Shall Not Kill is in there somewhere I am sure).

"You have no shame of your sin."

None of us asked to be born. We have no control over what happened before we were here. No shame of my sins? What sins? Is just being born a sin? Who decides, in this day and age, what is a sin? Men decide that. If I'm gay, Christians call me a sinner. If I'm a straight woman who is single and dating, and sexually active, Christians call me a sinner. If I disregard the bible, Christians call me a sinner. I could be the most upright, decent, truthful, law-abiding citizen, without a blemish, helpful to the poor, etc, and I'm still a sinner to those people. The major problem with Christianity as I see it, is that no matter what you do, you're punished for it. With dying, or hell, simply for not believing. Someone said if there was no sin we would not die. Well, why should I have to die because Eve was misled? Had nothing to do with me.

There is no real heaven or hell. We make our own heaven or hell while we are alive. You often hear people say in a stressful situation " I,m going though hell right now." or others say in a good situation " this is heaven. So I do believe that we make our own heaven or hell. The good christian people make others fear hell to suit their own purpose. Eg: You need to give the church 10% of you wages to the church in order to be saved from hell. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against people having faith but faith is not religion. You don't need to pray to a certain GOD as long as you have faith in yourself and others.

Probably because it doesn't make any sense for an unconditionally loving God to even have a place like hell.

If there is a hell then God is a psychopath who creates flawed beings who are going to screw up and end up in hell suffering. What kind of a wacko God would that be?

love and blessings Don

It is absolutely logic for a non believer in religion not to fear the Hell, because you don't believe the existance of Hell.

Because you do not have to fear a place called hell. That's why. I'd be actually more afraid of going to hell, and having to spend eternity under the rule of this despotic god. But as you imply, none of this is right, so I don't have to worry.
