We have a 6 year old Beagle that we can no longer keep. beagles are a dime a dozen. They are not sought after dogs and such I am having a hard time finding a home for him.

The rescue will not consider him b/c they don't view him as needing to be rescued.

Any suggestions?

I am shocked that the Beagle rescue will not take your dog!

Call around to local NO-KILL shelters (usually not run by the city/state) and see if they can take the dog and find it a new home.

You might also want to check Yahoo! Groups for any groups of beagle owners and see if any of them would be able to help.

I would try my local newspaper. There are probably plenty of families who would like to have a fairly young, trained, neutered dog that is good with children. (I am assuming these things are true). Do not offer him for free - people tend not to value what they get for free.

PLEASE be sure to gather plenty of information on the family who takes him.

Ad should read (if it's the truth) . . .

Wonderful family pet needs new home. Sadly, can no longer care for my 6 year old beagle. Housetrained, loves kids, neutered, fun personality, excellent health.. Great size and personality for kids. We will select best family from applicants. Request $50 donation check to SPCA in exchange for our beloved pet. Phone XXXXXXXXXX

Put an ad in your local paper for the type of dog and home that would be right, whether it be a place with lots of running room, small children, or a dog who doesn't like people. Make sure you put these qualities. Then state your price and be sure to meet the people looking to take your dog, making sure the people you choose are the best owners for your dog.

Aww, that's too bad. Definitely put up signs, or post in a local newspaper to local residents who may be interested in adopting him. I would definitely love to take him in being the beagle and all-around dog lover that i am :) You can also try local animal shelters.. tho that doesn't always have the best results. best of luck

Yyou can go on a site called pet finder look up the local animal shelters in your area and ask them if they could cross post your dog for you. If you by chance decide to place your dog in a shelter beware as some shelters will euthanize a owner turn in with in 3 days depending on the population of pets in the shelter. I think asking a rescue to cross post for you is you best bet. We have a rescue called Have-A-Heart Guinea pig rescue. If you look at our site, there are dogs cats horses birds, and farm animals. they are all cross posted for people looking for homes for their un-wanted pet. We try to cross post as many animals as possible in hope to fine every last lost pet a home.

First, ask all of your trusting friends, don't make them feel guilty, just ask if they would like a dog. Then, post an and on petsfinder or your local newspaper. If still no replies, then consider a shelter.

If you must find a shelter, I suggest you look for a good shelter. For example, my local humane society is a dump, but my local SPCA is a work of art.

Try to find a Beagle rescue in your area. If there are none, then try to find a no-kill shelter. They will not put him down. I don't think a rescue will turn him down contrary to other opinions.
Good luck

ask your shelter if they have a rehomeing service, my local shelter does, you keep your dog in your home and create a profile online that people can veiw and if they decide to adopt him they can get him straight from you. However the more reponisible thing to do would be to continue your commitment and find a way to keep him yourself.

Put an ad out that says "Save this Pup from Death" - state that you will have to euthanize if a home cannot be found. Guaranteed you'll get some do-gooder to help...
