I'm 24 and still live at home and I spend about £50 a week on books, dvds and cds and feel guilty. Should I? I work full-time but feel like I should have moved out but don't see the point as I don't have a girlfriend yet

You don't need a gf or anyone else for that matter to move out of your parents place, unless you need someone to split the rent with. If that's the case, there are always serveral resources for finding roomates online or in your community.

I'd say if you're not is school (college) it's not ideal to live with your parents, and you should probably work out a budget with your salary to see what you can and can't afford if you move out. But I'd definately encourge you to try. Even if you don't have all the new toys/games it's a better feeling being able to say, "This is mine." or "I got this by myself".

The reason that you don't have a girlfriend yet might be because you still live at home with your parents... seriously. If you're going to spend that much money on crap, you outta just save it up and invest in an education, your chances of meeting somebody on campus is a lot better than at Hastings or a movie store. Grow up and be independant, you outta feel guilty, there's not reason for your parents to still be providing for you, it's so selfish for you to not be living on your own at this point. At least chip in around the house, put some money towards the mortgage or take responsibility for some of the utility bills.

I am almost 26 and still living at home. However it is only to save money because I am starting to build a house. It is to expensive to pay rent and save for this type of expense. I don't think you should be spending so much on extra stuff save it up so you can move out. The big reason you probable don't have a girlfriend is because you still live at home. No respectable girl wants to spend the night with a guy when his parents are in the other room. Also at that age they want a guy with life goals. Treating yourself once in a while with treats is alright but it is time to grow up and start to think of your future. Do you plan to spend the rest of your life living with your parents or are you waiting for a girl to just take care of you?

A guy doesn't just move out of home because he has a girlfriend. Guys move out to experience the reality of living on their own - paying rent, bills - you know, real life. Go find yourself a cheap apartment or suite and get some independence. Stop being a mamma's boy - no girl likes that!

Moving out has got nothing to do with you having a gf or not. You have some growing up to do. Spending way too much money on unnecessary stuff and no sense of responsibility at all. Have you considered giving the money to your parents instead?

I didn't know the prerequisite for moving out was having a girlfriend! Your a grown man...for goodness sakes, cut the strings and move out. I'll bet there has been a girl in the past that liked you except for the fact that you still lived at home with mummy. Grown up, move out and get on with your life!!!

Honestly, it's the best way to save money because once you move out on your own - it is almost impossible to save unless you're making a really great salary.

Being, however, that you're a guy - I'm surprised you actually want to stay home with your parents. There is a beautiful freedom that comes with moving out.

I don't know... If you and your parents feel comfortable with teh arrangement - I don't see anything wrong with it. Of course, if you do ever start dating, it would server you well to get your own place; just doesn't look good on the dating "resume" to be living with your parents when you have an option to be on your own.

Where I come from, living with one's parents into adulthood is a common thing, but in the US for example it's considered beling a loser.
