If multiculturalism is so good why have lots of other countries not adopted it?
In 1971, Canada became the first country in the world to adopt an official Multiculturalism Policy. This policy provided for programs and services to support ethnocultural associations and to help individuals overcome barriers to their full participation in Canadian society.
Austrailia is the only other country to adopt a policy that reeks of multiculturalism.

Anyone that has travelled anywhere in the US will see vast differences in culture groups here based on geography. I assume it is the same in Canada(I have actually heard this). The idea of multiculturalism should include a retention of your personal cultural beliefs and an acceptance of others. No watering down, just acceptance that someone may be different than you but actually not be WRONG because of that.
I like grits. I am southern. It is not wrong to like or dislike grits.
I think if we accept that people moving to our country would like to learn the language (biggest barrier) it would be nice to help.
John Wilkes Booth's dad complained about the immigrants and how they would change the American culture. Oh my, how things have not changed.

Don't know about Canada, but I think it's working here in the US. I see my neighbors as neighbors, not as what skin color they are or where they come from.
We get together and tell stories of our varied upbringings. In this part of the world... Well over here .... It makes for lively discussion, and the more we participate, the closer we become. I start to see the similarities in other cultures instead of the differences.
Besides, isn't it great to walk down the street, even in a small plains state city now, and see all different kinds of restaurants! Greek, Italian, Vietnamese, Ethiopian, etc.
I will always be an American. And part of being an American is knowing that pepole can look different and talk different, and still be my friends, and even patriots.

It is not working at all in Europe.Nobody really wants it but it is slowly imposed upon us like everywhere else.
It works only in theory. In reality people prefer to be with their own kind and whenever there is a difference of opinion or interest ,groups separate and jump at each others throats.
Multicultural lol.People beat on each other over different soccer teams...
Unfortunatelly

In elevating ethnicity/race, we have balkanized entire groups of people and instituted an "us vs. them" mentality which has caused much division and tension.
WWII was won partly because we considered ourselves American, and we were all on the same side. Multiculturalism has destroyed much of that.
