Money and Power. People want to spread their beliefs and have control over others. Then the church can tax people. This is why all countries should go secular. Then we can all have our own religious beliefs and not be persecuted. And we would go to war only when our country, or the world, is in danger. Like when the U.S. saved the world from German Nazism and oppressive communistic dictatorship. Otherwise, under a religion controlled nation, muslim women would be oppressed, and the pope would be sending its people all over the world to spread his religion by the sword.

Actually, malaria is the #1 killer of humans throughout history.

In terms of human activity, one might well make the case that "More people have died from economic hardship, than anything else." or "More people have found a purpose for living through religion than anything else." In other words, I disagree with your premise.

Sure, no one would have liked to have been there during the 30 years war (a religious war in Europe) or at the siege of Vienna in the 1600's (Christians defending Europe from Muslim invaders) or forced to convert to Islam at the hands of Muslim soldiers in Africa (name your century), but religion isn't the cause, is it? I would say "nationalism" is a greater evil than religious principle, wouldn't you?

You presume that the premise of your question is true and then ask why.Religion is only man's excuse for fighting wars. All war has been about getting wealth and power. We ARE all the same.

Because when a person is convinced that God is on their side even good people are capable of heinous crimes.

Don't worry, I know you were referring to humans killing humans
