Is there something to help with this until I can get to the doctor. I think I may have asthma. Its worse some days then others. Today is really bad. I feel like there is something really heavy sitting on my chest. Its hard to inhale. I feel like I can't get enough air. I have to work to breath. What could this be? Asthma or what? What can I do for this until I see the doctor?

Sounds like a mild asthma attack, but I'm not a doctor. To try and relieve yourself until you can see a doctor try using cough drops (like halls) and things like that. If those don't work hot coffee usually does the trick for me when I don't have my rescue inhaler. The caffine is a stimulant and helps to loosen up your lungs for easier breathing until you can make a visit to your doctor.

It is very possible you do have asthma. A Dr’s appointment is a must. An antihistamine such as Benadryl could be of much value (as it could be an allergy). To help get you through until your appointment I would recommend drinking water when having difficulties with inhaling and/or exhaling. Sit upright, and try not to panic. If it gets to the point where you’re feeling extremely dizzy or feeling like you are getting too exhausted to continue to breathe, this is when it becomes a serious problem. Do not hesitate to call an ambulance. If it is a true asthma attack you need immediate medical attention. There are some OTC inhalers but wouldn’t be recommended until meeting with your Dr. – I am not a physician.

I'm not going to tell you what it is because I'm not a doctor, but here are some things that may help...You can try lifting your arms slightly over you head, this can help open up your airways. You can also try putting on music with a slow beat. Then try matching your breathing to the beat. It's difficult at first, but it trains your lungs. Or you could turn your shower on in the bathroom and sit in the steam. Hope one of those helps.

Go to a walk-in clinic.

Try 'Breathe-right' strips. They help you inhale more air. Even if it is a lung thing, more air may make you feel better.

Vicks salve.

Vaporizor while you sleep. (Or a big pan of simmering water on the kitchen range if you have no vaporizor.)

Call the doctor and see if you can move up the appointment. If not, ask him at what point you should go to the emergency room.
