He is so irresponsible. I ask him everyday to ring home his toque, mitts, ski pants, etc. There is ALWAYS something he leaves at school.

I told him that if he doesn't bring home everything he will be grounded from the TV, computer, XBOX, etc. for that evening. He's already been grounded 2 evenings. Is that too harsh?

How do I make him more responsible? What are some reasonable consequences I can lay out to him?

i have a 7yr old son also. i think its just the age. this worked for me maybe it will help you. i cut out pictures in different mags and put them on another paper of what i wanted him to remember like boots, coat, hat, ect. and put it in his backpack and before he leave school he checks his "chart " to make sure he has everything. i also made a chore chart at home for him and before he goes to bed every night we go thru and give him a star or smiley face for everything done like, homework, chores, brushing teeth, picking up toys (just about everything we have to reminder him of all the time) and at the end of the week if he has earned so many stars or smileys faces he gets a reward. example 1-10 means a dollar toy or 10-20 means a happy meal.it has been working great and he loves seeing all the stars and happy faces and if he doesn't do something that day he gets a sad face for that item. any way i hope this helps you and good luck just remember they will grow up someday! ha ha ha

Make an easy to follow checklist for him to take to school and have him check off the things after they are packed up in his bookbag. Then when he gets home reward him with a hug, kiss and an hour worth of his favorite priviledge (like video gaming)

hey he is 7 - chill

one secret in parenting - you need to repeat everything at least 22 times. don't get angry - just keep reinforcing the message. It will eventually get through

You may want to have him checked by his pediatrician or a school psychologist and make sure that he doesn't have any cognitive problems that could be causing his memory loss.
