maybe look at the animal shelter or petfinder.com to find an older dog that is maybe 1 years old or older, If you get a puppy they do bite until you train them manners. Puppies take a lot of training and patience. A dog from a shelter or from petfinder.com are already set in their ways and some are already trained. You should look up breed selectors on the internet and they should help you find a breed that suits you.

You will not find all of these qualities in one dog, you can come close but you will still have to comprimise. I can suggest a couple of dogs that I have or would get. If you are looking for small, then I would recommend a short haired Jack Russel Terrier. it is smart, does not shed much, it is tolerant and loving, it is very smart and easy to train, and as far as small dogs go it is one of the only small dogs I would have. If you can go a little larger, then I would recommend a Lab. It has to be my favorite dog I have ever had. Any dog that you get though can be good with proper care, trainig, love and affection. Good luck on the hunt.

I have a 14 week old Bichonpoo. She is a cute little fur ball. Very smart, well-behaved, easy to train. I have trained her not to bark. She is hypoallergenic and does not shed. Because she is only 5 pounds and will only weigh about 10 pounds full grown she is low maintenance. I have also taught her through strict training not to bite. She is paper trained. She is very easy going and gets along with everyone.

A Yorkie might be good for you. They have hair not fur and you can keep it clipped short. With the right training they can be taught to bark only in situations when they need to get your attention or to warn you about something. I've a boxador that only barks at the door, strange noises and when I bark at her. Training is the key. Also establishing that you are the leader of the pack, if it is to be your dog. Good luck.

Well, a Great Dane would fit everything but small. They are cute, and they only bark when they think there's some kind of danger. Mine barks when he sees someone he hasn't seen in a while, though. They don't bite, and my dog pretty much goes outside when he has to.

Most dogs are curious, idiotic, and definitely not low-maintenance....
If you want a small, "cute" dog.... then get a chihuahua.... or however the heck you spell it. Not sure of the maintenance on them, besides protecting the rat-like freak dogs from angry cats and other dogs.... but they're certainly small and don't shed tons.

You really can't have a dog!! They are lovable, but they are trouble with all the aspects yu described. In order for them not to be trouble, you need to train them well and spend a lot of time and energy with them.

Picky are we? I agree, you need a cat. They clean themselves, don't require walks, very low maintance, ect.
Even asking for a low maintance dog is suggesting you are not ready for a dog.
