Because most of them don't read their Bibles. They would rather have someone else interpret them for them. Unfortunately they either don't know or don't care that that is what gives God a bad name!!

This is because we have not taught accountability in churches for at least 60 years and each group has staked out their own flock. (see Mat 18 and letters to Tim) The works are the evidence of reconciliation and justification not the reason one gets to heaven, thus if you see one continually sinning and doing no visible good works then they did not successfully complete step one. Remember that step one is not by works Eph. 2:10. However most are unaware step one is to be done daily and that is because of preachers who ought to be submitted to the accountability process. Since they do not teach it and their congregations are too lazy to read on their own then the fact that elders are also to be held accountable is not done.
We have a country where one can say he is a christian and experience no accountability. Bush is a prime example. In the end we all suffer loss because of it.
Note also that the choosing of elders for which the process is specifically Laid out in TIM. is not followed and that most boards made up of merchant types do the governing. Elders who are chosen according to scripture are to be in charge not some unseen group who many do not know or understand and who are often merchants the very types Jesus ran out of the Temple.

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? do you understand this. Jesus if he took away our sins and we are saved then where does the account for sin goes. There are many Christian families that have children who are Retards or lame or with one eye . These people have been Christian in their previous lives. That is why they choose to come into Christian families. If their sins were wiped clean then why do they suffer? Now look at the first line it says -that faith without works is dead- which means that faith alone is nothing unless you do good deeds

Salvation entails a constant and arduous effort to comply with the dos and donts of a given religion. This idea of salvation through mere faith is just beyond my comprehension. May be self-styled religions people have come up with this easy solution to circumvent the hard and strenuous religions obligations with a view of having it both ways: indulging in all sorts of pleasures (detestable from a religious viewpoint) and clinging to the dear idea of being religious.

Romans 10:13 " For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Romans 10:9-10 " That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and confession is made unto salvation."
Romans 6:23 " For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Good point. I think that many Christians are on this site to try to do good works. And I know that many others are out there in the real world doing what they can every day to carry on the work of the Lord.

Actually, If you read The book of Acts, it says if you believe in Jesus Christ you will be saved, also stating you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. So just believing is not enough. If you believe you must have works that show what you believe.

It is the one main thing needed to get into Heaven.
But to if you expect to have any kind of real spiritual power, then you need to not just believe, but engage in prayer, patience and obedience to God.Those are the "works" he's talking about

Ephesians 2:4-5
4But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
We are saved by the grace of God. Knowing God is real and accepting His free gift of grace are two different things.

Its all Paul's fault. James, John, Peter believed in faith + works. Paul was all about faith w/o works.
